got the crank back from the machine shop and I noticed this on the #3 rod journal ...#4 has some marks like this as well....




What are your thoughts about this?

Doesn't look good. If it is not where the bearing rides it shouldn't affect oil pressure. I would be worried about strength. An imperfection like that could be a starting point for a crack.

Was that crank turned down? If it was, be sure to have it rehardened. If I'm not mistaken, the cranks in the 4.3 are the weakest link being a split journal crank. I don't think something looking like that would leave our shop.

Almost looks like a casting flaw. Do you recall seeing anything there before? I'm amazed the shop didn't call you.

I dont remember seeing anything like that...it is odd looking. Im going to run it back by tomorrow and see what they say.

stock heads cam and turbo for now .. maybe a tune and some bolt on parts later

but thats how it always starts...its a slippery slope..we all know that
