Timming or sumthings wrong

I just put another engine in my 92 typhoon the newer engine has 48,000 miles on it but when i try to time it to zero it runs like crap but if its set to 4 or 5 degrees advance it runs Great but still i can tell its advanced so all the power is not there. ive tryed pulling both of the ECM Fuzes and it doesnt help. what can i do or what is broken or out of alignment.

ive already put new vacume lines and everything

Are you checking timing with the tan wire disconnected?

Are you sure it is a correct SyTy engine?

the engine is a Typhoon engine i just sold the intake and stuff but where is the tan wire at ive never done that..before.

The tan wire is under the dash on the passenger side - near the ECM. You might have to fold the carpet back to find it.

Looks like this:

yeh with the tan wire connected it should be like 20 something degrees. ALso make sure to check for true top dead center with a piston stop as on many stock dampers the rubber slips so 0 doesnt necessarily mean 0.

I think mine slipped because I'm showing 10-20 degrees of retard with the tan wire disconnected, and I don't think the engine would be idling and running fine like that... Too bad the nearest piston stop is 2 hours away! I'll have to make something up with a screwdriver and finger to find it. Any tips for ghettoing something up?

With the tan wire connected, should it be 20 degrees advanced or retarded? I'll connect the tan wire and see what timing is tomorrow just to see where it is in relation..

should be advanced with tan wire connected.. there are two marks on the damper.. possibly you could be reading off the wrong one.
