Towing With Ty

I searched, I read, I still am unsure....

I Have a 92 Ty with 4l80e trans...... I have a boat, dry weight 2975 lbs, plus the trailer, which prolly weighs 1500 or so, maybe less, it is a dual axle with it's own brakes (tougne) I want to tow this a distance of about 20 or miles...

I am going to do...

Weight Dist Hitch (if anyone knows brand / part # please let me know)
Boost Controller (gonna set REAL low) maybe 4-5 psi or even less
Already have larger Trans Cooler
Maybe Airbags in rear for extra weight handling...

feedback please !!!!

You will definately need something (air bags) in the back, I would imagine the hitch needs to custom job. if its going to be a just a one time tow you could alway remove the rear roll pan.

A member here, TowingTyphoon used to tow a boat all the time with his truck. But he went to a Cayenne Turbo and was trying to sell in 2005. You might try getting ahold of him and seeing if he can shed some light for you.

Since the trans is the weakest link, and you've got an 80E, you've already got a head start.

Re: Towing With Ty

keeping the tranny and IC temps down is key. low boost, and you'll be good.

95% sure you can mount a standard jimmy hitch wrong side up, but then you have the bumper in the way. I was going to do this to my GT, but get a fiberglass bumper to save cutting up the original

Re: Towing With Ty

Does Valley offer some sort of "Hidden" Hitch or one that will be able to go behind the plate? also do they have one that is "weight Distributing"

No to the first yes to the second several different models to be exact, then again you could probablu use a jimmy hitch and cut the cladding
