How about A poker run in place of the track? I could setup A map were the roads have as little as bumps & potholes as possable. Winner gets A kick ass prize. A raise of hands if that would be A good replacement from the track !!

...JUST MY THOUGHTS
No offense, but we have casino's in Colorado for that...:) (regarding a poker run).
I doubt I could convince any of my friends to attend if that were the only racing involved,
much less any future vendors.
Im starting to get bummed already...:( (STUPID TRACK)!
Part of the attraction, after scoping out the 1st year of Homecoming, was to
compete with similar SyTy's that arent regularly street driven, share war stories with friends
over hamburgers, talk with GM Rep's, stay up late at night & watch street races,
hope for some kinda magazine sponsorship/pics, and view new/different build setups
from mine). Im not an autocrosser, but I would imagine some folks would even enjoy doing this
as well. Eliminating racing (or hassling with 500 TNT`s at a track) means me participating
as a HC spectator only without a vehicle (rather than seriously trying to finish this beast, which looks
like an uphilll battle anyway  ). Another fly-in, piggyback with relatives, and fly-out!
Plus bugging Merk, Marty, and others a bit....

Dont tell me HC will offer less than it did last year....(not that I didnt have fun
last year, but I really was hoping it would grow rather than shrink). Oh well....

Hold on! LISTEN: We have not heard from the track, and there is still a chance we can get it!

And Homecoming will be better than last year, guaranteed! I don't know why everyone is taking this so negatively, as nothing has changed as of right now.

Random question.

if the track falls through what is the possibility of moving the location to somewhere close to the original location but with access to a track? Or is that not feasible at this point?

where's GM's proving grounds at? and can we get access to that? :rotf:

if it happens, we can jump in my spaceship, and head for the moon.

but seriously, are there any other tracks close by?

Re: Track Question....ALL please vote.

GM uses the Milan track for a portion of their testing and tuning. Someone should contact Wheel to Wheel and talk to Kurt. He probably has clients that would like a track day and trust me, his clients can aford it. I will contact Dave Henninger, and see if he would be interested in bringing anyone for FAST tuning. Maybe he could get FAST to sponsor some track dollars. Let's nail down the track and make this a even better year than last year. We will only make this more popular than last year if we go forward, not backward!

Let's be real here. The syty'ers that are willing to travelare shrinking because these trucks are getting older and cheaper. Not as many owners can afford to travel long distance as the owners of the past could...back in the day when one could afford to shell out 25 -30k for a rare new street terror as a second or third vechile in most cases. Either the nationals need to start moving around so every couple of years more people can attend or we need to build strong regionals where numbers can get together.

Track time is important as these trucks are the reason for it. Bring your trucks a run them in moderation! Not everyone needs to be beating them to within inches of there lives. For some you it should just be like you do on the street. Make a fun time out of it lined up with some friends. For others that want to push it, great. They know what they can afford to break. The troube is that we all think we are in some kind of competitiom against someone . Screw it. These trucks are to enjoy! There doesn't need to be anyone trying to out do someone for braging rights. It just temps others to over do and break something.

Whether you run a 15 sec or a 9 sec, a track day is for you to make some easy runs and have a good time . Trust me, those that have not run down a track, you will have a blast. You don't need to have high octane, high boost, etc. Just do what you do when you are by your self on the street.

Don't even think about being embrassed what you run. trust me all of us can be beaten by others no matter how fast. I personally don't give a crap what others think if my trucks go a half as fast as people think thay should. They are my trucks and I "like em" whether they disappoint others or not.

If my TT Tube chassis runs 10s, people can poke fun a me all they want. I still am the owner and I like to drive it when and where I want and will treat it the way I want.

Let's all pinch in and make this a fun event. We will regret it later if we don't! Bottom line on the track. We have the opportunity to go fast with our truck in a legal controlled enviroment and a private day without outside influance. It is our day, fast or slow jsut for fun or as competitaved as you want. For does that still feel that they may be embarassed, we could have a section time with on timing posted. Everyone should make a pass or two. Don't even power launch it if you don't want to. We are the syty family, let's have some fun within it.

Re: Track Question....ALL please vote.

...John said it GREAT! Not only was he there for the 1st year of Homecoming, but he brought
both trucks (and Mike Callahan brought his awesome Sy). Didn't matter
if they run them, or just idled on the trailor, it was neat to see so many hi-dollar builds
whether they be modified for racing, built by Stokes (like Mark's Sy) or just restored to
pure-stock (like Merks white Ty)....or a combo for the street.

Having the track allows the SyTy community to race one another safely (for bragging rights
or fun); see how others tune and setup their vehicles which may/may not be similar to yours;
and even have the wifes/girlfriends "whip up" on the guys. It doesnt matter if you run once,
or just sleep at the tree....the day becomes special when we come together to enjoy these
vehicles. Thats why its so important to offer a wide range of options (like drag racing,
or autocrossing, or show-n-shine, or tech sessions, or raffles, or crusing, or vendor booths,
or historical previews by GM, or "bull" sessions at the motel, or fun-type awards/recognitions).
Kinda like a "SyTy Woodstock"...the more people, trucks, events....the better! For most of
us seeing a trailored "frame-off" SyTy in progress is just as rewarding as "going shopping at the mall"....grin.

I say make the Homecoming bigger.....which makes it better....(and they will come)!
If it costs a bit more, so be it. Better us spending on our trucks than the government claiming it for them.

-Larry (excuse me if I left out any other great trucks/owners who attended).

Re: Track Question....ALL please vote.

While I agree with what Larry/John have said, I guess I'd prefer the T-N-T option.
It never seems that anybody runs more than a few times anyway, and I kind of like the idea of a SyTy gang "mobbing" an otherwise innocent TNT. Up here, we're used to only 2-3 runs a day anyway... that's normal at my home track.

I much more enjoy the parking lot interaction, the late-night hotel hallway discussions, and seeing old friends.

Also, it's gonna be a plenty expensive proposition for me this year ($400 for diesel alone)- another $120 kinda hurts. With that in the mix it makes it much more appealing to leave the truck home and ride the shiny alum. bird.

*EDIT* Larry mentioned AutoX. I would pay $$ to do that again. Great Bend was a blast for those who got to do it.

Just my .02.

Re: Track Question....ALL please vote.

After reading all post after my vote I still am unsure if I could afford to pay the additional $120 fee. As mentioned above those of us driving out, missing work/pay, hotel, fuel, registration = an expensive weekend. That being siad I has soo much fun last year I would not want to miss out on watching the action, but I will not be racing. I'll tune in to see what happens. I guess as long as there's CHEESE I'll be happy.
