Tranny experts - does a TCI go in a '93 Ty??

Hey tranny experts...I bought a '93 Ty that as it turns out, needs a lot of work. The pin-head that sold it to me (I had my head up my butt!) said it had a lot of good "stuff" done to it including a new tranny. He was lying about most of it but it does have a new TCI street fighter 700r4 from Summit. I've read a few notes on the site about only staying with the original tranny. The TCI tranny functions, shifts harder than hell and seems to work. I am however having problems with it rolling after it is in Park. I've had a couple of weekend warriors try to adjust the linkage w/no luck. I'm about to take it to a tranny specialist... Do any of you guys have experience with aftermarket tranny's?? Am I screwed (again)?!...

Thanks

In not a trans expert so I cant comment on the durability of the trans but if its rolling while in Park and the front drive shaft is installed then Id say your transfer case is fragged.

yah, its either not going into park correctly, the front propshaft is gone, or the transfer case is long dead.

It is interesting to hear the TCI fits in the SyTy application.
Well, why wouldn't it fit? There's nothing special about the tranny case in a SyTy -- it's just a standard 4x4 case. What makes our trannies special is all the stuff inside. The question about the TCI tranny (or any other brand 700R4) really isn't "will it fit?", but rather "will it last?"

I guess the reason I was surprised is the prices really aren't that bad for the TCI. No core charge and I believe Summit had them for $1500-1600. I would swap the valve body over of course - but it might be a decent budget build for stock trucks.

I was talking to a buddy of mine who has used the TCI in a few drag only applications and had great luck with them. His HP numbers were in the 600-700 range - but I'm not sure what torque numbers were. If it was a matter of getting a transmission quickly and rebuilding the other as time and money allow it might be worth it. Some of us use our trucks as daily drivers and to get all the parts together and get the rebuild done in a timely manner might be a pain in the ass. It will be interesting to see how long the TCI in this guys truck lasts.

Thanks for the input guys...

Well, if it's just a question of durability, we'll see. The guy paid $1300 from JEGS. The motor is stock and has >120,000 miles w/o a rebuild. Needless to say, it won't even come close to staying w/my '01 WS6 (except off a cliff!), so I won't be pushing it too hard. I'll be using it as a daily driver w/some minor hp mods in the spring. Once it's fresh, we'll see how long it holds up. I got the original (spent) tranny too so I guess I'd better be ready to rebuild...

I forgot to mention that the front prop shaft is out getting R/R'd and it still creeps in park. Does this still mean the transfer case is whipped?? It doesn't seem to be making any noises from there and runs ok...the fluid is ok too...

Well... I got a TPI in the Syclone. It's been in the truck since Dec. of '99. I have yet to have any problems with it. The sheet says: 700R4 non-lockup with Reds and Kolenes and billet servo 22/30 (whatever that means) and 10" 3000 non-l/u, with one case of Torco. I paid $2190.00. I don't know if it's right, cool, or just lucky. Works though, and shifts well. Please enlighten me.

10" 3000 non-lockup!? What kind turbo and engine mods do ya have? Do you try to monitor/control the temperatures of the tranny? Anyway, I'll let somebody else enligthen you, who has more exprience with trannys than me. One for sure. That's not a usual SyTy tranny and converter receipe...
