what different tanny options are out there? what is the best bang for the buck?

build my existing 700?
swap in a th350? th400?
Im guessing to make around 600hp and i need to start cosidering tranny options. i already have so much into the motor that i cant afford a monster tranny build.
thanks,

3 grand should do it w/converter to build up your 700r4. No kidding. I just finished mine. Ouch. That's building it yourself.

Jeremy, that's seems to be a bit high, especially if you did it yourself... I thought you can be there with $1-1.2k (including converter) if you buy the parts individualy.

I have a Mike Lee TH350 and if you just race your truck then it is the way to go. Mine is a daily driver and you dont even want to know what I spend on gas. But my truck is much better off the line and runs great. Mike and his crew were excellent to do business with and my tranny is doing great. The temp is almost never above 180. I have a 2800 stall with no lock up in it. I dont have a trans brake because the rest of my drivetrain couldnt handle it.

Hardened parts plus transbrake. Adds up quick.

This should be interesting, let us know how the brake works. I'd like to hear that it works without scatter parts, but damn 3K sounds like a serious investment for a test like setup.

I think that would be like trying to get an elephant's pecker into a mouse. But I think it would be very hard to hurt that tranny. Plus, its e-controlled with overdrive.

The th350 swap has pro's and con's. Definately good for abuse and racing, but for practicality on a daily driver you loose some creature comforts. Pretty much what has already been mentioned.

The 700s will tend to be about $1000 more then the 350s for the all our builds, but the major benefit is the od. You could save alot on labor if you do it all yourself, but one little mess up could cost you alot in the long run. There are alot of little pieces in a transmission :-?

There are a few of us offering complete trannies, and a few who will guide you through the process of rebuilding your current trans. Do some research and i'm sure you will come up with a educated solution. Either way I think you would be very hard pressed to build your own 600+hp tranny and buy a good converter for under $1500. You get what you pay for.
