Honestly, I would call Brian Hartman.. Make sure you tell him how much power you want to put to the ground and how much money you have to spend. then he can either make a kit or give you advice on what to get and where to get it. That way you dont have to take the trans out for a long time.. This is my goal allthough , i am getting good at pulling the tranny by my self and that is half the battle....... Brian has bein a hell of a source for information and wisdom. No one I have ever talked to know as much about the 700r4 trans or someone that is willing to help/teach and put up with finnacle arangments... A good transmition is addictive to drive :D the launch and the shifts are nuts. I had for 4wheel burn outs....I scared more than a few people with mine..
HTH ....thanks Brian

http://www.huryde.com/html/Tech/mofotranny.htm has a parts list and lots of instructions. People have differing opinions of the quality of those parts, and of Jesse's experience. I don't have any experience with either, so I have no opinion. I'm just posting this because it does have a lot of information, and looks like a good place to start. Whatever you do, you should probably do as much research as possible on it before deciding anything...

Opinion only here people!

If I were to do it over again I would get the Hughes Kit from Summit. Pn:HUP-HP3788K It has Red Alto clutes, Kolene Steels, all seals, Kevlar band, all gaskets, all new bushings, filter all in one kit. Alot cheaper than I paid all seperate.

Get new Bearings, 5-pinon planets, new BW 29 element sprags, pan, cooler.

Then replace what hard parts that are worn.

Do all mods tha are listed on my website, more to come.

Get a ATSG update manual most mods are in it with instructions. Get a good video on them.

Add a good cooler and a nice convertor and your set.

A very good kit can be pieced together for under $900. But the assembly is what cost. Any where from $1000+

The quality of the parts listed on my site is no different than any other, just as good or even better. It's who opinion who follows up on them is what changes everyones view on the products.

Thanks for the refrence Bill, lot's more to come with the site!

Jesse! Great info, but that part is temporarly unavailable from summit. Do you know any other place which carries it?

Thanks,

Kieth, if you can take out the tranny and bring it where i am, my GM driveline guy who has been hooking us up for years can install your new parts , whatever they may be, probably around 500-600 bucks, he is a awesome drivetrain mechanic.

Not positive but I think Hughes sells it directly.

Same deal here.. I was busy trying to keep up with two trucks (one of which wanted to start only when it wanted to), a trailer, tools, etc.. Thats why I wish the nats were a few days more than just a weekend (hint, hint  )

Nahhh. I picked that one a week before the nats and dropped a eng in it that I built. Nice old truck and I didnt trust my first 700 rebuild hauling close to 10k lbs of trailer/race-a-truck/tools/ppl/etc to chi town and back without puking its guts out all over the place in BFE or down town traffic. Towclone only has a 305 TBI and just dont have enough umph to pull that kinda weight any more distance than local. The 355 and 5spd just made the tow vehicle a little less worrysome.

Gonna do another 700 in a week or two for the hell of it so I'll be hitting your site quite often if ya dont mind 8)

Good deal, one thing I do plan on doing to the tranny section is making a printable version for the tranny section since it is getting so large. Hopefully I will be able to get it up soon. If not I'll e-mail it to you. Truthfully I would almost like to do another 700. What are you putting this one in?

Its kinda complicated but a poor person/parts hoarding person would understand completely :D

Im selling the original towclone (blk 90 GMC 1500) since it only has a 305 and the paint needs stripped to bare metal before repaint (its a "peeler"). Just a lot of work to make it look nice and swapp in a 350. The chev I towed to the nat with already has the drive train I want and is a long bed which tows better IMO so Im keeping it. I was gonna keep the GMC and sell the chev but I changed my mind.

Heres where rebuilding another 700 comes in... The 700 in the GMC is the later model (87& up) that could poss be used for a rebuild candidate later for myclone. Ive got three older style 700s and want to freshen one of those to swap in before I sell the truck. Truck is gonna go cheap so swapping trans doesnt bother me in the least.

That way the person who buys it gets a fresh trans (even if it isnt the "correct" year), I get rid of one "old style" 700 outta the garage, I now have a "later" style 700 for poss use in myclone, and everyone is happy.
