transfer case lube

So, I've been doing some searching about this bluish stuff in my truck's t-case. Figured it is Autotrack II but want to be reassured. It needs about a pint and i dont want to mix chemicals up in there that will cause an adverse effect in the internals. How many of you are running this stuff with no issues?

I read up on Autotrack II and GM uses it for the 96-up AWD vehicles. Also, there are claims of it helping to diminish the famous "crow walk" during tight turns due to clutch binding because of friction modifiers in other ATF and t-case fluids. Non of that info was found here but on other websites. I just want to keep parts from breaking down any sooner otherwise. All these people must know something I dont... I am trying to get it right. That's all. I am not pushing this down anyone's throat.

Re: transfer case lube

I'm all ears here. I could never figure out how to stop that "crow walk", as I avoid it as much as possible. It just feels like the wheels are gonna snap off. And I have stock wheels/tire size. How bad is it with wider rims/tires? I'd assume brutal....

Re: transfer case lube

The viscous clutch unit is sealed - the external lubricant will have no effect on "crow walk". I read up on this last time and ended up just using trans fluid as Morgan said, Dex III.

I'm not sure the auto track fluid should be in there. As you stated GM used it for the 96 and up years not in early 90's. I used amsoil tranny fluid and worked out great for me. Anyway good luck on what you choice.

Guess I am comparing apples to oranges in my head to think that viscous clutch would work in a similar fashion as the torque converter works in the transmission. Not hard to do since that is what is implied for the newer AWD t-cases such as SS Silverado ones.
