Transfercase chain

I just put a new chain in my transfercase and noticed it was a bit harder to turn. I can still turn it with one hand. Does the new chain tighten it up that much? It still sounds the same, slight dragging sound, but no grinding or anything like that. I wont get a chance to install it until saturday. Its the first one I've done and would rather take it back apart before I go through reinstalling it. I ordered it through national drivetrain with a set of seals (104.95). I couldnt believe the dealer wanted 600.00 for just the chain  .

Re: Transfercase chain

If you cleaned everything out really good (carb cleaner), you removed all lubricant (transmission fluid). If you put new seals in it, you should've lubed them with a mixture of trans fluid and vasoline. The vasoline helps suspend the fluid. Once you put fluid back in it, the bearings and bushing sufaces will be lubed and it will turn easily again.

Re: Transfercase chain

Thanks for the reply. I found a seal was not installed correctly, fixed it and now no popping.

"popping" is very different from a "dragging". Dragging is normal when dry. "Popping" is not normal no matter what you've done. I'm glad you found it.
