Transmission pan...

Is this your bush?
What do you use? Do you have an aluminum finned pan? Derale steel pan with the air flutes/pipes running through it? Thoughts? Thinking of purchasing a pan....or is it a waste? Looking for thoughts and personal opinions....post away.

Re: Transmission pan...

I have the Derale. Guessing better cooling from the Derale. The TCI is cast. Less leak potential. Does the TCI have a temp ga bung? The Derale does. Mine is older and doesn't.

If you're looking for cooling install a cooler. What these pans really do is give you an extra couple of gts capacity which also helps with cooling. Street truck? Coin toss. Race truck? Cooler.:2cents:

I have a cast aluminum TCI pan. Aluminum dissipates heat better than steel, the thicker flange provides better sealing than crappy stamped steel pans, aluminum doesn't rust either which is nice. The downside is I think its more expensive that some of the other pans.

Re: Transmission pan...

I have a cooler and braided lines from another member I bought a while ago....since the trans is coming out this will give me a chance to upgrade the torque converter. ...Trans pan and lines...and just thinking of prolonging the transmissions life ...and fishing for opinions. ...I also have a trans sensor and gauge already installed. ..The Derale has a temp sensor bung....Drain plug and supposedly is now made from thicker steel. But aluminum pans can be utilized for a jack point due to their strength if needed.....so many decisions. ....dammit it's a tough one.

X2. Been running one here for 15+ years with no problems.

"Cast TCI transmission pan, holds two additional quarts. Filter is supported by the four pins cast in the bottom of the pan. Front of pan *may* have to be trimmed to clear TC inspection plate (mine did)."

Re: Transmission pan...

If u are taking it out of the vehicle the cast aluminum pan has less of a chance at bowing in like a steel pan is what I'm getting at....I bit the bullet and just bought a derale pan for the 700r4 because it has a drain plug.....a temp sensor port....an additional 2 qts. And it wasn't $200+....If I was doing upgraded trans. I would....The trans that is coming out will get a upgrade and possibly a aluminum pan....I'll try out the derale and if I like it I can give someone who wants to buy one an opinion of how it performed and what likes and dislikes I had about it after utilizing it.

Thanks for the input gentleman! I'll keep you posted on the trans temp data I observe with the derale pan also!

FWIW I've had the Derale fan for a number of years with no leaks. I do think cast is better from that standpoint.
