Tubular Transmission Crossmember

Based on another thread posted and a few needing them I am going to dust off my jigs and make another batch.

80e or 700/60(e) just let me know what style.

1.5" dia, laser cut flanges, tig welded, powder coated black (let me know if you want bare or another color), and shipped to your door.

$200.00

I will close this Nov. 7th. If you want to pay now or when they are ready to ship either is fine.

paypal ty1295@gmail.com or I do have a mailbox and we can go that route.

Send me a PM/email with name and style. I just ask if you do sign up being I am not requiring any deposit you don't flake out on me. I really don't need extra's laying around to trip over as I have a hard time walking as it is.

Re: Tubular Transmission Crossmember

Will the 700 replacement crossmember eliminate that saggy low look of the factory one?

Geometry of the trans only allows so much, the 1.5" dia tube is welded to the flange that bolts directly to the trans mount, so it is 1.5" below that. Also the torsion bars dictate a few things.

If you can see your saggy crossmember, sounds like you need to lower your truck.:tup:

80e please, and thanks for doing this!

EDIT: Jeff, did you ever make a tubular torsion bar delete brace? I would be interested in one of them as well if you did.

Code what?
Tubular Transmission Crossmember

Truck is lowered, the factory trans crossmember is the closest part to the ground. I would guess the big square tube crossmember is a 3" drop from the support for the mount. My question was in regards to gaining ground clearance not hiding the visual of the low factory crossmember.

So does your crossmember sit level or above the frame rails? Or does it drop below the frame rails like the factory crossmember does?

I'd also be interested in the torsion delete brace if you ever make those.

Re: Tubular Transmission Crossmember

Just one question, (I apologize if this has been answered already) will this bolt up to a stock truck, or is there modification required? I'm very interested in this piece.

Is it made out of chrome molly?

Normally no, but to save some hassle and make everyone feel better I will make these all from 4130 tubing this time.

No problem, got away from making a lot of syty parts due to other things in life, moving to a house/garage, etc. New garage is finally setup and much nicer place to work so thought due to interest I would try to help a few people out again.

Depending how this goes, (I have a helper coming in for this GP to get them done ASAP) we will discuss making a jig for torsion bar delete. Let me get this done and over first though.

It probably sits up slight more than stock giving you a bit more ground clearance, it is not level with frame just do to geometry of trans though and clearing torsion bars.

I honestly did not anticipate this much interest in them. Every one is added to my personal order list, Come monday will be ordering tubing and flanges with goal of starting construction next weekend on bending tubes.

I know you mentioned dusting off the jig. Seems as if many asking have front coil overs. All three of my trucks have your coil overs. My main interest for this is to gain ground clearance by having a crossmember that does NOT hang below the frame rails. I'd be in for 2 of these for a 700 if you are interested in developing this. I have always hated how the factory one hangs so low, it allows it to catch speed bumps and just about anything else that sits 4"+ off the ground.

I have coil overs for my truck as well I would be interested in something with more clearance as well if at all possible.

Re: Tubular Transmission Crossmember

I'm in for a 4l80e as long as it bolts up to the stock location.

I have the exact same design in my truck, and several other local guys here. Never had a clearance issue.

If you go up higher then where do you route the exhaust? It is not as easy as just moving crossmember up, you have trans mission angles to deal with, exhaust, cat.

In total the bar hangs about 1/2 the diameter below the frame or about 3/4". I have not checked what a stock one is, but I can measure tomorrow.
