Turbo Timer

Re: Turbo Timer

From anything I read when looking into them we don't need them because most of us have coolant running through the turbo, even after the truck is shut off. As long as you don't have a turbo without coolant lines and don't shut it off under a load you should be fine. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Does your coolant keep flowing after the truck is off? NOPE. it just sits there next to that 1300 degree exhaust housing( you know you got on it before you parked it ;) ) boiling.

Yes I think that you need one even if the truck is stock. Unless you're a purist and like sitting in your car for a minute after you park it for temps to go down, get one.

Most kits are universal, and you can find a wiring guide for the ignition. I personally would spring for one with an EGT option.

I don't know where I got this obviously wrong info from, but I remember reading that your coolant " DOES " continue to flow after you shut the vehical off. If you shut it off while looking in you I/C ( if it's still A2W ) then you'll see it keep going for a little after the pump stops, not for 60 seconds but I figured since your standard timer is what 60 seconds? That if I let it sit and idle for 30 and shut it off that was sufficient. Guess not.

Re: Turbo Timer

I run an Apex turbo timer set for 50 seconds after the ingntion is turned off. Helps get all the coolant out like someone else said, especially next to those manifolds/downpipe. If I'm just going around the block or somewhere like less then 5 mins away and don't get on it, I can just shut it off. I just lock my doors and walk away. Everything is locked up anyways: doors, steering wheel, shifter. Maybe that's why I still have the stock turbo at 136,000 miles and can still launch at 10+ :dunno:

The ic uses a seperate cooling source (lower cche). the turbo uses coolant from the radiator.

Re: Turbo Timer

Personally I think it's just common sense, so you sit in your truck and let it idle for 30-60 seconds before you get out. Think about it, normally how long do you sit in your truck after shutting it off and before you get out? Probably about that long.
