was wondering about catalytic converter.my wife bought me a 3" atr cat back for my vibrating ty. i figure id take a break from trying to chase down my vibration and work on something else for awhile so i thought id bolt on the 3" system. my question is i was thinking about removing the converter for less back pressure but heard it was not a wise thing to do because it allows the turbo to over-spool. i figure im new to the turbo world and you guys are the gurus of sy/ty and know what the scoop is. any help would be great.

I wouldn't run w/out the cat if you have the stock wastegate. If you do there's a good chance you'll overboost. I've got the ATR 3" cat back...what were you looking to do? Free up some extra horsepower or get a deeper sound?

well, some trucks do ok, others will hit fuel cutoff in a few seconds. Mine hit fuel cutoff then would come back on and be fine. I would leave it on, if you are stock. If you have 3bar and chip you will be able to add fuel to the new found boost and be dandy, unless you have bad knock then you cancel your self out with retard. nokk returd that is

i was looking to free up some horsepower. sound doesnt really bother me, i kinda like it when they dont hear you comin. i also have a i beleave its a atr pitpull chip for it that i havent put in yet either. was waiting to fix the big problem, my vibration. i have done a walbro pump due to the tank was leaking so i figured tank out id put a pump in. so im almost stock except for pump and ill probably put the chip in b4 gettin back to vibr.

Yeah, the stock wastegate isn't all that great. Removing the cat lets the turbo flow more, but the wastegate still flows the same. You may or may not have boost control issues. Probably best to leave it in.

just use an aftermarket boost gauge if you remove the cat or install a high flow one.. This way if it starts popping/missing or pulling check engine lights you will know if it is overboosting or not. Keep in mind with the stock chip the overboost cutout will kick in most likely b/c the wg will not be able to control spikes.
