Re: Typhoon II #735...it's coming together...
...just thinking outloud:
If the Ty was race only, then carbon fiber hood (pinned), racing guages, racing
seats (carbon fiber or aluminum), driver cage with rollbar, and bare/aluminum
floor pans with lightweight glass/window mechanisms would be fine.
But it sounds like you have a multipurpose build, (show, strip, and street).
In which case the sound noise inside, some creature comforts, and driveability are needed.
This Ty would look awesome with a tilt front end. Im not a fiberglass hood fan
having seen the heat, strength/weight, and prep required. Not to mention peeps
who can damage it at car shows (ever see someone step on fiberglass running boards?).
So personally, I would go with a steel hood (but it might be kind of cool to make a
ram air package for the twins). The cowl hoods are so common, that I would like to
see something *special* on this monster (if the tilt hood/front end couldnt be done).
Kinda a pro-street, pro-stock, pro-touring look (but definitely not Ghetto, where
backwards hoods, or winged doors are the rage). I even saw an electric operated
front end that was kinda neat, but obviously the heat would kill electric motors.
Inside, take your time and layout the gauges, switches, steering wheel/column
and necessities properly. While you wouldnt want to go strickly show, I saw
an interior on a 56 chevy that Boyd did that had tilt, telescope, and paddle shifter
that really looked "stock" but cool. Tastes vary, but you might consider
billet, carbon fiber, brushed aluminum, or body color paint inside. I like the
stock-ish look of a Ty dash with integrated gauges myself. Whether you like
the "escalade" look, or digital look, is pure individual preference....most guys
just slap a tach, and boost/fuel/temp autometers on the pillar on on top of the
dash. I think you have an opportunity to make it look like it came with the Ty
(and take a look at some of the newer hi-po cars nowdays - shelbys, ford gts
z06 vette, vipers, etc for ideas). I love talking to the goodguys (hot rodding folks)
as they have lots of neat ideas/tricks as well.
No doubt, you will do good in selecting correct components. Im just thinking,
that this vehicle deserves a bit more than a normal cowl hood, 3 gauge pillar
pod, and stock-ish seats that every SyTy owner has access to (no offense,
as I am on that list as well). Two guys that did it differently were Jason and
Marty, (but I must admit there may be others).
I reallly like what you`ve done to date. Please take the time to make
your hood/engine compartment and dash/interior equally as impressive.
What did Troy do with the inside of his tt chicayne? Cruise the internet
and look at the custom shops.
Good luck..
