Here's the deal...I need you guys on the BB to come up with different ideas about how I should tell her. We will decide on the best one and that person can tell her in person. If he lives he gets first dibbs on extra parts and first ride.

I'll do it, no problem, (think I can out run her? Or should I practice dodgeing gun shots?) :rotf:

Yeah I might tell my wife how much I've spent but I'd rather live to do my other car

Re: Typhoon II #735...it's coming together...

Trust me here...I didn't tell her what I have spent on it. Just that I got a good deal on stripped down Ty that needed a motor, trans and paint. And that I have enough parts around to put a motor together...and I can pick up a trans cheap. She sees the motor parts laying around. Doesn't know that they are from my old stocker motor. Now that my new motor is about finished, I will have to start making the old parts disappear. Even though I only paid a few hundred for the "body box only" prior to any chassis purchase/work the title states $2,000.

Hey, don't you think this is worth $2,000 without Motor trans and paint?...Hell, the wheels are worth about that much! She agreed!

She didn't look underneath though...

or she may have thought we actually took advantage of the poor seller...

Now where is that motor, trans and paint?...time to get it finished and creat some value. Can't wait to show her how much money we can make on this $2,000 starter project!

If that story works, does she have a younger single sister?

Wow, thats an awesome build up. I too would like to do a TT build but I need to finish the single first. :banghead:  ::steamer:  But  Thats a bad a$$ truck. Cant wait to see it run.

Re: Typhoon II #735...it's coming together...

Nice progress John, thats going to be one bad Ty roaming the streets hunting for prey.

Gives me aot fo ideas for when the time comes that my rides get reversed and the GT is my driver while i do a frame off on the Ty.

Re: Typhoon II #735...it's coming together...

Just another update...

Chassis done
Body mounted and tubbed
Caged fabed
Drive train set
Tank/fuel system installed and plumbed
Intercooler installed and plumbed
Raditator installed and plumbed
Headers, turbo, DP exhuast done
Steering system installed
Brakes installed and plumbed
Motor done
Trans and convertor done

Disassembling everything for paint.
Many parts are at the painter getting prepped
Body shell goes to the painter next week...going with the stock white to match my other Ty
Chassis goes to powder the following week...chassis, cage, engine compartment (firewall, core support, inner fenders), engine block and intake will be the GM 1979 charcoal firemist color. Hope I like it as I can't change it now! Also the aluma-pro wheel centers will be the same color.

Getting Closer!!!

I just may get to drive this someday...but I have to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this project over the past 20 months!

I still have a few decisions to make...

I have three hood chooses...
1) Stock steel hood that I could graft Lumina vents into. (latching)
2) Harwood 2" cowl fiberglass (latching)
3) carbon fiber 2" (pin on)

I am not sure if I want a pin on type as I go to a lot of cruise-in's and it's a pain to always put the hood on the top of the truck. Also if I did use it I would probably want to paint a portion of it white to match the truck. I could leave the cowl part natural CF (similar look to a Camaro hood stripe).

Leaning towards the Harwood hood...but then again I will have some CF accent pieces in the interior that would go good with a CF hood. Can't make up my mind on this one. I could save the CF hood for another upcoming project...may be a better match.

Also, I am still debating on gauges. My plan is to keep the front part of the interior as stock as possible (dash, carpet, console, doors, etc). I could go with either stock updated guages like George is making or all Auto-meter gauges...I think it would be neat to have stock style SyTy gauges...but then the truck itself is going to have a little bit of a pro-street look to it and maybe that needs a little more race style looking gauge set...

Same thing with seats...stock style leather or ricer style leather or Kirkey racing?

Be interested in some of your ideas...what would you do or like to see?

Re: Typhoon II #735...it's coming together...

Man, sounds like it's coming together nice! As far as the hood goes. I think the 2" CF hood would be nice, but in a latch style. There's no way to mount latches and fill in the pin holes with CF? Gauges, I would keep the dash all stock looking but go with some auto-meters because it does have that pro-street look. Same goes with the Kirkey seats. Those would look good and go with the pro-street yet stock look. Just my opinion though. Everything you've done so far looks good, so I'm sure whatever you do will turn out nice. Keep up the good work

Could you make CF hood pin on but still be hinged?

I think stock dash would be good, maybe with custom gauges in the middle. Little bit of both.

I vote for the stock hood...maybe with the Lumina vents...but stock for sure.

Did those gaskets work out for you? Looking great man!

Re: Typhoon II #735...it's coming together...

...just thinking outloud:
If the Ty was race only, then carbon fiber hood (pinned), racing guages, racing
seats (carbon fiber or aluminum), driver cage with rollbar, and bare/aluminum
floor pans with lightweight glass/window mechanisms would be fine.
But it sounds like you have a multipurpose build, (show, strip, and street).
In which case the sound noise inside, some creature comforts, and driveability are needed.

This Ty would look awesome with a tilt front end. Im not a fiberglass hood fan
having seen the heat, strength/weight, and prep required. Not to mention peeps
who can damage it at car shows (ever see someone step on fiberglass running boards?).
So personally, I would go with a steel hood (but it might be kind of cool to make a
ram air package for the twins). The cowl hoods are so common, that I would like to
see something *special* on this monster (if the tilt hood/front end couldnt be done).
Kinda a pro-street, pro-stock, pro-touring look (but definitely not Ghetto, where
backwards hoods, or winged doors are the rage). I even saw an electric operated
front end that was kinda neat, but obviously the heat would kill electric motors.

Inside, take your time and layout the gauges, switches, steering wheel/column
and necessities properly. While you wouldnt want to go strickly show, I saw
an interior on a 56 chevy that Boyd did that had tilt, telescope, and paddle shifter
that really looked "stock" but cool. Tastes vary, but you might consider
billet, carbon fiber, brushed aluminum, or body color paint inside. I like the
stock-ish look of a Ty dash with integrated gauges myself. Whether you like
the "escalade" look, or digital look, is pure individual preference....most guys
just slap a tach, and boost/fuel/temp autometers on the pillar on on top of the
dash. I think you have an opportunity to make it look like it came with the Ty
(and take a look at some of the newer hi-po cars nowdays - shelbys, ford gts
z06 vette, vipers, etc for ideas). I love talking to the goodguys (hot rodding folks)
as they have lots of neat ideas/tricks as well.

No doubt, you will do good in selecting correct components. Im just thinking,
that this vehicle deserves a bit more than a normal cowl hood, 3 gauge pillar
pod, and stock-ish seats that every SyTy owner has access to (no offense,
as I am on that list as well). Two guys that did it differently were Jason and
Marty, (but I must admit there may be others).

I reallly like what you`ve done to date. Please take the time to make
your hood/engine compartment and dash/interior equally as impressive.
What did Troy do with the inside of his tt chicayne? Cruise the internet
and look at the custom shops.

Good luck..
Larry
