Very hard brake pedal. Vacuum ball? RPM Check valve?

Whenever I go to start my truck the pedal is very hard. Then once it starts and drives it is normal. Brakes work fine. I did delete my vac ball, does this have something to do with it?

No your vacuum ball has nothing to do with the vacuum used for your braking system, all the braking vacuum is taken directly from the upper intake plenum.

If the brake pedal is harder then normal without the engine running and then gets better once you start it, that sounds normal. The reason it's harder is because your engine isn't making any vacuum for the power brake booster to use, to inturn make it easier to apply the pedal.

If you've ever driven an older vehical without a booster or drove a vehical getting towed that isn't running and you have to apply the brakes you'll get the same type of pedal feel all the time.

you should start worrying if the pedal goes soft.

Ok thanks. It's just odd that it is very hard now and it never was like that before. I think it started either after I put the RPM brake booster hose on or deleted the vacuum ball.

Could it be the brake booster hose?

yes, make sure the rubber grommet in the booster isnt to big, I reused my stock grommet after I had issues with the grommet supplied with the braided hose.

What part of them is too big? You think that maybe it's not sealing correctly and allowing a loss of vacuum?

Check valve has gone bad and truck loses vacuum when it sits.

Well hopefully it is the grommet since the check valve is new. It's the RPM valve and stainless hose.
