Want a post to be VAULTED

Hey mods and Admin, I have had the absolute worst time gettign setup for tuning. Luckily, there have been a few guys here who have tried to walk me through it. I think I may have scared a few away in the process but nonetheless I am going on it. Finally! So I had a thought. There is a lot of good info on here about getting it started but unfortunately a lot of it is really hard to understand and it is scattered everywhere. Hard to find and takes a long time. Ive been up late almost everynight trying to get this crap figured out. So I want to knwo is this, if I spent the time and adequately put a page together (possibly with the help of some other tuners) that was organized and in steps so to speak, is it possible we could get it vaulted so that new tuners can go through it step by step and not get totally lost while also not having the good/pro tuners answering 50 million questions? Ild really like to do this but dont want to if it wont saved for all to see. Tuning is becoming a necessity for many here nad the vault jsut has nothing on it, that ive seen anyway. Gettign started was definately the worst part for me and I would like to help others out. If other board members, Mods and Admin, could let me knwo what htey think I would really appreciate.

Mike

I agree 100% my fingers hurt from all the emails
Mike, I say if you want to put a rough draft together and send it my way I will go over it then we can submit it for review by others and then persuade it to get vaulted and stickied somewhere in plain sight

I’d like to chime in here also. I tried to help Mike along a little but, I soon realized that he wasn't as accustomed to computers and the associated "lingo" as myself and things I take for granted, computer wise, were difficult for him, and I'm sure others, to understand.

For instance, when someone says to load the Tunerpro definition for NWSTP site, I take for granted that everyone knows what that means and knows, instinctively, how to accomplish that task. I can't imagine how hard it would be for someone with very little computer knowledge to try and apply digs patch

Mike, please don't take offense. I just used you as an example as you seem to have "thick skin" and I'm sure you’re not the only one with basic questions.

I suggest starting a new thread where we can hit on the basics of Tunerpro installation and setup. I don't mind making screen shots with instructions, if it helps someone get into tuning. The more the merrier.

Plus when code59 is finally released, we all may need a little hand holding.

If its worthy of being vaulted then yes. If its posted in the chipping section I personally can't move it though.

I personally can't wait to get into the tuning aspect of these trucks so I would hope we can get something like this vaulted. I have done lots of searching and reading the stickies in the tuning forum. It makes sense for the most part but it would be nice to have a step by step post.

Re: Want a post to be VAULTED

Yeah like the stuff Jeff Scott took the time to post up and have stickied is awsome information. Only problem is, for tards like me who have no idea how to get it started, its almost wrthless. Funny thing is, I did get almost all of that post by Jeff but getting set up was the worst for me. No I finally got my WB working with TP my BIN is currently driving me around with the Ostrich so Im happy now. I cant look back and say, oh you know that really wasnt as hard as I made it out to be, for me it sucked. Take Digs instructions for example, now Dig is an awsome guy, Ive met him in person and hes doing some work for me, he infact, "talked" me into tuning at a SYTY gathering in Denver a few months back. In his instructions, on a post I read, he said it was explained well. When I read his instructions, in this particualr post, he physically typed things like "cd &lt:", just like you see it here. Now its not Digs fault that I didnt understand this but it said to type that. Now that Ivbe gotten everything successfully working, I know that "&lt" means something else. Smeagol , in the smae post gave the smae type of instructions only it was for draging the files into DOS. Then he goes on to say you have to type the file path. Well, that can be confusing in itself for us new tuners who arent all that computer literate. BTW, I am refering to patch install. So I think it would be best since its fresh in my head to start a how to thread on the easiest way of getting all this going with DETAILEd instructions in lamemans terms.

Hey its all good. I actually really know how you feel. Ive been trying to coach a fellow board member here just what to do to get his truck reliable and he barely gets it. Nice guy though but it does get frustrating when people cant speak your language. No offense taken here, I felt bad to bother you. In life, I am a very independent person and hate asking for help as it is but when I cant figure out something and I know somone can, I become kind of impulsive and tend to be a PITA.

You knwo I am going to do that. Ill start on it probably today. Maybe guys like Jeff, Dig and a few newbie tuners like me can look it over as well and make sure it looks good from both ends. Now that Ive done it I get it real good, everythign makes total sense to me. I can think of 100 ways to make the process easier. So I guess if you want to hel p out with this Ild love to try and get something together. Thanks again for hanging in there with me and helping me out I really appreciate it.

Sometimes it is hard for someone with the knowledge to understand the simple stuff and be able to explain it. Stuff we/they take for granted can really stump others. I have been on both sides of it.

I will say Code59 has it's own website www.code59.org and will have a forum for discussion of tuning and the code only. One nice thing is there will be other users, not just syty and sometimes you can get good tips from another application.

Just talked to Paul last night and he is finishing up the website to make sure it is stable and ready as well as final touches on the documentation we do have.

Code59 is more than just a new chip, a few new tools were developed also.

Code59 will require tunerpro to use the new features at this time.

The above is EXACTLY why I turned my back on the stock ECM.....it made my head hurt trying to figure out just the basics since I dont speak the lingo and I dont blame ppl for not wanting to help since they would have to hold my hand every step of the way.

Its also exactly why the stock ECM is still laying on the work bench right where I left it after I installed the XFI since I had to have something that didnt require a masters degree in computer software applications to use.

My :2cents: FWIW.

Sweet, sitting on the equipment just waiting for the release of $59 and some time to actually set it all up.

Luckily, were fortunate to have a few items that weren't around a few years ago.

namely....YouTube, desktop video capture, and remote destop sharing.

Hell, we can video the setup of Tunerpro, and post it for everyone to see on YouTube.

And, if that fails, we can probably log into your computer remotely and set it up from 12,000 miles away!

Re: Want a post to be VAULTED

Im glad ya brought this to the surface Mikey boy, as I also am a 'tard and want to "learn to tune" but have virtually no knowledge of computers, (see, i have no avatar!)
This wont stop me though. I just need a some better understanding of the Logic behind this stuff.
Ill be bugging you,(all of you!) when i get my junk together, so be ready.
In the end, we all have the same vehicles, and represent at any given time.
The general racer dont know who or which sy or ty their about to race, and it shouldent matter, as all the competittion should get stomped!

Re: Want a post to be VAULTED

OK so here is what i have so far. Keep in mind this is just a check list of things to cover for getting started and the most prefered tools I have seen most people use that seem to be good combos:
1. Aquiring equipment ( what to get )-Tuner Pro RT, Ostrich, G1 adapter/GP1, ALDL cable,
WBo2 (LC-1).
2. Equipment Installation ( hardware instal help )- WBo2 (instal/ECM integration, Ostrich, G1 adapter, ALDL cable. MAP sensor?
3. Software installation-Tuner Pro, LC-1, Ostrich, WB patcher.
4. Tuner Pro-define files (XDF, ADS, BIN) and how to use them, load them from one computer to another. Explain how to get it up and running, log data, load BINs to Ostrich, switch to different BINs, etc..

Then perhaps we can have a link to Jeffs tuning posts in chipping section.

None of this is in detail obviously I was just trying to figure out what hte best thing to do first is and just make a list of all that needs to be done. Im sure Ill rearrange things on this list but want to try and get what makes the most sense on here in terms of order.

Other useful information would be how to read datamaster/scan tool. How to tune (fix problems) from that information.
