You're not doing too bad so far. What is your MPH and do you have a scan tool? If you have DataMaster, what is the knock retard looking like during a pass? Do you have an aftermarket boost gauge, does it read near 15 PSI the whole way down the track? What are your 60' times?

No I don't have datamaster or anything else + no aftermarket boost gauge-on my one run, i was shifting maunal-and my times were lower but i hit the rev limit into 3rd gear whcih killed my finish--R/T=.751--60'=2.0--1/8=9.2@73.6mph--then finished at 92.8mph.....thanks

Well it sounds pretty straight forward what you need to do... Get the aftermarket boost gauge to see what's going on. But first get a scan tool (DataMaster and laptop Pentium 133 or better) to make sure your truck is not detonating. Also make sure you use all the recommended ignition components as this is absolutely imperative to the proper operation of your truck. It has to be ACDelco CR42TS spark plugs or NGK UR5 or UR6, none other than those three. Also use the Conrad brass distributor cap and rotor kit for $15 AutoZone, and get some recommended plug wires if you don't already have all this stuff. www.sytyarchives.com has a great "HowTo" section that covers all of this stuff, and there is also a real good amount of info here: http://syty.net/faq.htm

Also when you race I would put it in D and only shift to OD after 4400-4500 RPM. You should not need to use OD at this point since you are only running 93 MPH. Are you doing the proper boosted launch? Using the neutral revs while holding the brake to build up brake pressure? The lack of doing that may be why you are getting 2.0 60' times. It could also be a boost problem or spark retard problem.. In my Sy I only got 1.9 60' times when I had low boost and spark retard. I fixed that stuff and now I get 1.7's.

Thanks for the tips--i was reading use mobil 1 syn. and Im not so that would also have affect too. I need to check my plugs also...but when i race at the strip--there is no time for a netrual launch--as soon as the line-up lights are on--2 seconds later-green light. But on the street ill try it--Ill get the reccomended things and see what i do--thanks for the help

It is hard on the strip. But you don't have to leave on the green. I have waited 5 seconds past the green sometimes before I launched. When you are at the track you want to find your best ET, not necessarily always try competing with the other guy.

What is supposed to happen, is whoever gets there first is supposed to only light his 1 prestage light and wait for the opponent to light his prestage, and then you both can light your 2nd stage light. But that hardly ever happens in my experience. So what you can do (this is kind of impolite but..) is when it's your turn to go, the other guy does his burnout and you can just race up to the line and trip both lights and throw it in Neutral and rev it once or twice to 2 or 3 grand while standing on the brake. Then put it in Drive and get ready. Once the other guy gets 1 or 2 of his lights lit up, then I applly the gas so I can be at target launch boost (3 or 4 PSI) when the very last yellow lights up (thats when you are supposed to launch).

Like I said though, you can always do your own thing and let the other guy go and leave whenever you are ready. No one will say anything. I almost never leave on time because I would rather have a good ET than to launch hastily and do less than my best.

alright--sounds like some good options for better ET's--yeah like everyone I lined up against had to burn out so i would just crusie to the line--next time im gonna race up and neutral it..thanks

Hey man, hows it going.
Sorry I couldnt make it down on Friday, things got kinda crazy around here. My buddy blew his trans in his turbo regal so I have been helping him screw around with that since I practically got home.

Anyway, dont worry about your RTs at Atco, those guys are always in a huge rush to get everyone in and out, they dont care about turbo guys. If your really worried about your RT's, the only suggestion I can give is to get out of the waterbox as quickly as you can and stage. I suggest staging shallow since the launch pad is kinda crappy there, I have pushed through the lights a few times myself. So get up there, and do the "tried and true" SyTy launch meathod, and hold a low boost until the tree lights up, then I usually give her some more gas, hope the brakes hold, and when she goes green, take ur foot of the brake and punch it. Like Josh mentioned above, dont bother with the manual shift and dont race in OD. Just stick it in D and let the truck do all the work, thats what it was designed for. When you trip the lights at the other end, click it up to OD and coast to the end of the track. Done.

As far as ET's go, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, oil, coolant and IC should all be checked, changed or flushed. The trans also should be checked out before any major whoopin's, make sure the fluid is red and doesnt smell burnt. I myself have Diacom, but I need a cigarette adpator or I can only get 2 runds down before the damn thing dies. Mike B has Datamaster, but he lives up north, so unless we get a big SyTy night down at the track, Im not gonna expect him to make a big run down, so I will do my best to help you out. Unfortunately I myself and not even experienced enough to know what im doing or looking at 100%, but I know what is BAD and when to say stop before shit hits the fan. So we'll get you all squared away. I am hoping to get my truck back on Monday or Tuesday, so if your gonna be around, let me know and maybe I will swing by your place if you want, since I still havent met you. Drop me a line.

Alright man, I gotta jam and get some sleep. check ya later.

Not bad to start. First, as Morgan stated, at Atco when they wave you into the burn out box just roll up to the lights, pre-stage and stage, put it in neutral then rev, hold brakes put trans in drive and get ready to build boost. You must do this quickly. I live in Audubon and have diacom, maybe some night you come down and we'll go over your truck and see what's up. What are your mods? Did you add any race gas? Tire pressure? The guy with the syclone, older? lots of mods? He was there when I went and was running 13.2 - 13.1. His truck was audibly detonating but he was not concerned. I also told him about the list. He had a TE-60 turbo, dynotech chip, KB intercooler with stock pump, no aux. cooler, ATR exhaust with 3 free flow cat, 3 inch downpipe, MSD 6A and coil etc. Rebuilt motor and worked trans. I need to replace my heater core before I go down again.
