Most folks like to get a galvanized wash tub and fill it with paint stripper and put the rims face down with the tires removed. Just make sure that the stripper that you get is safe to use on aluminum. I am in the process of polishing my rims and didn't want to remove the tires so, I stropped off as much as possible with them still on. If you live in a cold climate like me, a heat gun or hair dryer will make the stripper much more effective as most strippers work best 70 degrees and higher. Just heat up the metal slightly and keep heating it after you brush on the stripper. Be careful as the stripper is flammable . HTH

Most auto stores sell an aerosol can of aircraft stripper. I used it and it worked really well. I masked off the inside of the rim around the lugnut area and sprayed it on. Let it sit for half hour or so and use a soft nylon brush and a water hose. The stuff burns like crap if you get it on you, but water neutralizes it pretty quick. Then just get some good paint. Bad thing is most suppliers only get the right clear for rims in gallon cans.

Ditto on the aircraft stripper, got mine at pep boys.
The original owner of my ty painted the rims to match, and I didn't like it,so I used this stuff, and not only did it take off the paint, but it removed the clearcoat as well, and it doesn't hurt the aluminum.
