Running an HI-6, with a stock 12 yr coil. Would like to change to a new one. Do you guys recommend running the Stock Coil (1115315)? Or maybe MSD's one or a PS91. Thanks for any help.
as others have said if you're not having problems with the stock coil then leave it! If you need to change it I would say use the MSD GM replacement, fits in stock location, not very expensive, Nolan and Tony used it to go 10's.
FWIW, I am running the MSD blaster coil, working good so far with my MSD 6a and taylor wires. I had terrible luck with Accel and other aftermarket coils and still reccomend the stock coil over most.
I ran Crane's recommend PS-92 with my HI-6 with up to 25 lbs of boost from the KB Stage 7 Turbo and 100 shot of DFI controlled NOS with no ignitions problems, only broken transmissions! FWIW Happy Boosting! Mike
Well, I don't have any personal experience with the MSD Blaster but I'm pretty sure that what Hoover is running now with his MSD 7AL2. It may not matter but I like to run one manufacturers matched components when it comes to ignition parts. Crane probably won't care if there PS-92 coil won't work with a MSD 6A but they would probably try to help you if it was a Crane HI-6 and you were having the same problems...and visa vera. OMO Mike
I got good results from a Borg$Warner replacement unit. I don't recommend the Accel coil, it was the cause of a knock prob I had. That and the Accel wires I used with it.
