Wideband O2 install - LM 1 Relay

Hey,

Innovate advise a relay to prevent voltage spikes damaging the sensor. Has anyone done this for the permanent install?

What do you need and where do you place the bits?

Have got the sensor cable through the firewall and am ready to install it into the turbo downpipe, but will hold off until it is in correctly.

thanks,

Mark

When adding the relay + off the ignition , be sure to fuse the power lead. The tech at Innovate told me you shouldnt need anything more than 5-10 amp fuse .

Sure...I can put in a series fues, but the instruction manual is not that clear....where to I get the pickup off our truck, what rating of relay, where do you get them..?

As always, a pic is worth a 1,000,000,000 posts!

MRKING, what is your LM box sitting on in your pic?

thanks man,

Mark

Here you go . Not sure if anyone will chime in on the use of the ecm fuse location , but it works for me and I dont have a ecm voltage problem . I wanted to make sure when my motor is running , the wb is on at all times . I'm making a small bracket to hold the Lm-1 box up . It was only proped up in the pic . The mounting location is under the middle console , it is flat and slides under it so I didnt have to drill any new holes .

Re: Wideband O2 install - LM 1 Relay

ok Mike, can you explain whats what in that pic?

Where did you get the relay? What is it connected to tin that pic?

Is your LM-1 wired into the 12v of the car via a cigarette lighter or elsewhere?

Thanks : )

happy with that, but what rating of relay etc etc? where to get them from? What is it connected to?

Relay is a standard spst 30-40 amp automotive 12v relay , although where you are you are I dont know whats available .Google spst relay a look for a cheap one . I ran a 10 ga power wire in my cab to run any accessories I added . The only reason I used a relay was to not run the wb unit power directly off the ignition controlled circuit . Either way will work .The connector in the pic was just a easy way to get a fused ignition source to power the relay .

Re: Wideband O2 install - LM 1 Relay

so let me get this....the relay is wired to the LM1..when the ignition is on, the LM 1 is unpowered, but the rest of the time it is on if the key is in.

Did you not have to do some soldering? Any chance you can take some more pics?

Not quite sure how you did it....

I found some relays here but they are SPDT..(Single Pole, Double Throw) and you said SPST (....Single Throw)...

Why did Innovate not include one!! Arrgh!

Re: Wideband O2 install - LM 1 Relay

MRKING,

you said that you took it from the ECM fuse location. Is that a fuse in there or is that the relay?

I just looked under my drivers side....

Where can I get 12V from? Guess I need to study the electrical diagram to get the 12v for the LM-1 and the right place for the ignition circuit....
I want to install the LM-1 in the glovebox and connect the analogue out to the ECM (until I get a new chip done).

I'm ordering the analogue component so the ECM still thinks there is a narrowband in there.

So i need power (not a cigarette lighter if possible) and the circuitry for the ignition etc...

Anyone got some good ideas?

:)

I got 12v from the connection in the pic through that fuse location .It has one fuse for the stock fuse location and a extra fuse for the new accessory. I'd get one for you if you were closer , its only a couple bucks for the part . Ignition can be found with a test probe at the wires coming from the bottom of the column .

Re: Wideband O2 install - LM 1 Relay

where did you ground the power supply to? The red lead is +12v right? Where is your relay?

To save some time,if you dont want to use the relay, just tap into both wires on the back of the cigarette lighter . Just turn the wb on when you hop in each time .I got ground from the tab on the steering column .If you can see up far enough you will see the tabs that a female spade terminal fits on .Then I just ziptied the relay up to under the dash .

Re: Wideband O2 install - LM 1 Relay

I'm definitely going with the relay option - I guess I just need to get my head into some electrical diagrams!

I'll take the 12v power from the cigarette lighter on the dash, and get the relay tapped in to the fuse box where you have it. I have found a cheap fuse/ relay brace as well and may mount that on the firewall to keep it all neat.

As far as the analogue output to the ECM to simulate the narrowband, I am guessing that is just a standard 3.5mm jack.

Hopefully I can get it all plumbed in next weekend!

thanks man

Re: Wideband O2 install - LM 1 Relay

what colour wire is the ignition from the steering column?

you got power from the TCCN right?

Re: Wideband O2 install - LM 1 Relay

ok,

what is going on?

ServiceManual001.jpg

In the truck, there is no TCCN / CRNK wires. Where does the ignition wire go to?

How difficult is it to get the fusebox off the truck?

Also, my ECM B fuse is 15 A instead of 10 A. I guess the servicing guys got it a bit wrong.

Re: Wideband O2 install - LM 1 Relay

You dont want to removeyour fusebox . The wires at the bottom of the steering column are where you get your ignition + from. If you get 12v + from the cig lighter , you dont need to touch the fuse box at all .
