Wierd Electrical issue (FIXED)

After adjusting my rocker arms and changing valve cover gaskets yesturday, I took it for a ride and as I was getting clsoer to home, I floored it. My voltage went way down. Then came back up. I ahd this problem once before and it had turned out to be the ALT. By the time I got home, the voltage would not come back up. So I had the truck running and kept hearing a popping sound from the engine bay, looked around and ddint see anything. I took the ALT off and had it tested. It tested fine but I made htem give me a new one anyway. Put it back on and still have the same issue. Whats super strange here, is that while hte truck is running, the BAT has 1.9 volts whilethe ALT is only kicking out 10.3. There is a fuse behind the ALT (10AMP) that was brunt and I changed it but did nothing. Anyone have any ideas on this? Any help appreciated.

Re: Wierd Electrical issue

I would check the rest of your fuses. If you blew one in the bay, there will usually be another in the fuse box.

I want to believe this is possible but my battery has more juice than the ALT. Go figure, Im getting ready to ehad down now and scan the engine bay and stadrt looking for trouble.

If all fuses are good then I agree... I would pull the battery and have it tested. Sounds like it may have dropped a cell. Let us know if you find anything.

Mike, That fuse didn't blow for no reason IMO. I suspect grounds. Run a temp ground direct from the bat - post to alt mount. Your original post said bat volts were 1.9, that can't be. Also you said the alt was making 10.3 that's very low indicating (if alt tests good) a big load somewhere. The 10a fuse supplies the CAC pump relay, check that pump.

Re: Wierd Electrical issue

As it turns out, I went for a ride and couldnt get the truck to go low again. All of a sudden on my home it did it so I hauled ass to AZ to hook up hte battery/alt tester. As the guy was hooking it up, I started playing with wires and when I hit the Voltage Reg wire harness it ran normal. I pulled it a little and the truck shut off. So I went home and cut the wire plug off the wifes TY and hooked i tup. Only thing is that hers only has one wire while mine has two. I hooked it up anyway nad it seems to work fine, Im not going to drive it much til I find out if Ill be hurting anything by using this one wire plug.
