Re: Wtb hood strut kit

Matt, is there a way to modify the kit to have it open further?

Gord, the struts themselves aren't long enough from what I can see. Matt and I hit our heads on the hood all the time, but he's a giant, and I'm just fat.

no i tried when you move it up to have it at normal hight open then it bottoms out 6 inches before closing, its a race truck anyway need to shave the weight ;)

Re: Wtb hood strut kit

The kit that has the shorter Philntex rods was the one I got. I ditched it until Randy found some extra long struts that are now about 2" longer than the originals in Phil's kit. I attached those and was good to go.

I think he shared a part no in that thread. I wonder if the kit Randy had was slightly different because I ended up drilling mine and then riveting the mouting tabs.

I love the spring loaded hood now.

Re: Wtb hood strut kit

Always ondered why people would buy these and then question trying to save weight. A hood prop rod from factory is lighter than 2 gas struts and the hardware to mount them. Also it's already there and free, nothing to wear out. I could maybe see if you ditched the factory latch and cable etc and went to a glass hood with pins but otherwise it's wasted money that didn't make the truck go any faster.

I'm not trying to save weight on this. Its the fact I put the aluminum core support in and can't mount the stock prop rod in a decent way without it looking like poo
