You could just buy one of everything like I did  or you could e-mail Sal and tell him what you need. The website is http://zainobros.com for more info. I don't think Syclones have clearcoat.

Doesn't really matter if you have a clearcoat or not.
If you want the best shine, buy the polish that is for clearcoats.
Z-2 I believe.
It has the best optical properties and will provide the highest gloss.

I've been this route before. Sal even called me a few times due to the situation. Here is the deal. Syclones do not have a clear coat. Therefore, you need Z1, Z3(not Z2), Z5(if you want to remove swirls), and Z6 enhancer. YOu can clay bar it if you like.

Z2 is made for clear coats and Sal said it doesn't have the protective ingredients as the Z2 because a clear coat does not need it. Therefore, he said to use Z3 on the Syclone. I found out the hard way that Z2 will not protect the paint from the elements, but I got it all taken care of now.

I hope I helped.

He should change the directions he includes with his products then.

Direct from his website:
Zaino Bros' Z-5 is the first non-abrasive polish that will eliminate swirl marks, fine scratches and spidering, without hurting the integrity of the clear coat. It does this in stages, anywhere between 1 to 5 coats, depending on vehicle color. With each application of Z-5 polish, you will see the swirl marks and fine scratches gradually lessen, until the marks are no longer visible and your paint will look flawless. Z-5 can be used initially after Z-1 or at anytime thereafter. You should switch to Z-2 as soon as you are happy with the way the paint finish looks. Example, no more swirls, scratches etc. It's up to you. Z-2 has higher optical properties than Z-5. You can switch from Z-2 to Z-5 and then back to Z-2 as often as you want. All Show Car Polishes are 100% compatible. For the highest optical paint enhancement. You should always end up with Z-2 as the last coat of polish.

At no point does it say Z-3.

i assume when you all are saying syclones you're also saying typhoons? so they both don't have clear coats.

so if i used a polish, does that damage/remove some paint? i'm talking about any ordinary polish.

heh, now what, some ppl say buy z-2, some say don't and buy z-3. what is the census here??

z1,3,5,6 ???

4cfed, have you used the z3? is it similar to z2? or should we just forget z2, and ONLY use z3??

this is where i got confused...

much thanks all!

Use the Z-3 on the Sy or Ty unless it's been repained with 2 stage paint(base coat & clear coat) as Performin Norman' said
Here's what I use:
Z-1 ,Z-3, Z-5, Z-7, Z-9 & z-10.
Also I recommend getting the Z-18 clay bar.
This process takes a good day to do from the claying to the final Z-3 application however you'll be amazed at the results. Zaino just keeps on giving, it lasts like no other product out there. After you've done the hole deal you just need to wash it every so often to maintain that fabulous shine. If you need any more info shoot me an e-mail.

A good day. You're supposed to wait a day between coats. Try more like a good week... I don't know that which you use (Z2 or Z3) makes alot of difference. I used both on my Typhoon with similar results. The clay bar is good but be careful not to press too hard. I must have cause I got lots of very fine scratches that took days to get out with Meguiars products.

If you have any fine scratches, Zaino will not remove them in my experience. Go to the appropriate Meguiars for prep work then wash it all down carefully with dish soap and start on the Zaino for simply astounding results. Hey, I never said it would be easy...

well i am confused now.

i just got off the phone w/ sal and he said the last time he remembered a non-clear coated GM was in 1987 w/ the GN.

so now, for the Ty, should i just order z3 ?? or z2 ?? it doesn't seem like there is any agreement. are sy and ty's different?

performin Norman, what about ty's? are they the same as a sy and have no clear coat??

again, thanks...

I have heard that the Sy's at least the first ones, did not have clear coat. I think all the Ty's did have clear coat. It's easy to find out. Take a white cloth with some polish (not wax) and rub on the paint. If the color comes off on the cloth is has no clear coat. If no color comes off then it has clear coat. On black vehicles you need to distinquish between dirt and black paint.

Jim Longwith

P.S. I used clay bar, Z5, Z2, and Z6 on my black Ty and it is the best finish I've ever had on it. Works on the cladding as well.

I am pretty sure that all Sy Tys came from the factory with a one stage paint. Unless yours has been painted, you don't have clear coat.

hmm...

this is pretty funny.
almost every other person will say there is no clear coat or there is...
so, yet i am still confused.
still wondering if the ty does have a clear coat.

i tried applying some polish, but i'm not sure if i see paint coming off. because the polish itself is white, and so is the ty.

so i guess there is still no resolution.

much thanks...

maybe you can use a black cloth:) I know for a fact my '92 Ty has factory clear coat. I had it wet sanded with the 3M system.

The Sy's do NOT have a clearcoat. If you want to know if your truck does or not just polish a spot on it. If your paint color ends up on the applicator you DONT have clearcoat. It won't hurt the paint to do this just don't use anything too abrasivwe like heavy compound. If you see nothing but wax on the applicator you Do have clearcoat. It's simple really. I actually like not having clearcoat better because it makes removing impurities easier. You have to remember Sy-Ty's were NOT NORMAL production vehicles. Now, as for what kind of paint, I'd like to know that myself. Normally clearcoat Compounds/Polishes are a little LESS abrasive than something with just a basecoat. My Syclone 760 doesnt have a clearcoat. I dont know what they did after that so you need to check by doing my little test above. I may try Ziano's myself but it seems like an awful lot of work. I detailed cars (alot of cars) professionally for a few years and we liked to (1) clay the vehicle (2) tar and bug remover as needed (3) Duragloss Swirl Remover (3) Mothers 100% Pure carnuba GOLD wax. All was easy on easy off and the Duragloss popped the color and the Mothers wax protected it. Your were done with the exterior in under 2 hrs with a good orbital buffer and some elbow grease. I also like that fastwax spray wax too. After trying it at the Autofair I love it and it's great for times when you cant do all the steps but just want the extra depth of a fresh waxing. Now with the Sy's you have an extra few hours in that damn cladding...
