Think about it. Automatic transmissions haven't had governors for over 15 years now. They're electronically controlled.
I took the PN above and Google'd it. Didn't find a source, but fond a couple of interesting forum posts. In that there were 3 governor PN's listed with their stock shift-point, and what a spring change (using B&M springs) would do to the shift points. My take-away was there's only a handful of GM governors.And the SyTy 4,400 one is not specific to the SyTy. It was very likely used in other applications.
At my buddies trans shop in Reno, they have bins and bins of used parts they get from "filleting" cores. I went through the bin of 700 governors, which also fit a number of other GM automatics, and found several different weight configurations. I took one of each, so I have a selection of governors in my trans parts stash. While I don't recall the configuration of the SyTy governor off-hand, I can pull the known stocker out of WhiteTy and 'build' you one to match, if you can't come up with another solution, Richard.

I think (hope) you have them backwards, Dave. The SyTy should have the solid outer weights, and the C4 should have the "cut away" weights.
In governor tuning, the adage "lighter is later" applies to both weights and springs. Substitute a lighter spring or weight, and the event you're working with will be "later", ie higher road-speed (which is what the governor references) with lighter springs.
Here's a "hi-perf" cut-away weight.
Here's a heavy weight. will shift at lower RPM / road speed with the same springs.
The inner weights can be different as well. The B&M kits change the inner weights as well as the springs. But getting the correct outer weights is important to get you in the ball park.

Please compare it to the pic below. Which is it? the light weight on the left, or the solid weight on the right? And if you can still see color on the springs, what color are they? Thanks.

All my SyTy governors had the cut away weights including my original transmission. My corvette was a 86 TPI so it would have had relatively low rpm shift points. I am pretty sure I don't have them mixed up, because I have 4 governors, 3 SyTy transmissions and one c4 governor which I bought and have leftover. I didn't touch any SyTy transmission until after I sold my corvette so their wasn't any chance of cross pollination of parts. I also didn't do a lot transmission stuff with my C4, I tried fix the 'stock' rebuild which I told the rebuilder 'Bucky' not to put in a 'shift kit' but he did anyways. It never shift right again.

Thanks everybody. For several weeks, I thought my tranny was on its way out due to the fact that it would shift from 1st to 2nd at around 2500 rpm /30mph. Sometimes it wouldn't shift at all to 2nd. Plus, it wouldn't shift to OD on the freeway, even at 75+ mph. I'm happy to say that replacing my governor has solved all my shifting issues. Tranny is shifting crisp and great through all gears, and I now have OD again :tup:

By the way, I have Dave's governor in my truck, and I believe it has stiffer springs. I'll keep sycho's governor as a backup just in case. You guys are great.
