? about amp wiring

My speakers have been cutting in and out; and finally just quit working completely. The deck is still on but no sound comes out. I've narrowed down the problem to the amps not getting power. The positive wires from two amps are ran to a big fuse block, then the one 8 gauge power wire is ran to the starter(for power) and also has a small fuse to that. Since the amp and the battery are like 1.5 feet away from each other, would it be alright to just cut the 8 gauge wire going to starter and run it straight to the battery? The big fuse block will still be in line with each amp. Also, if I do cut the wire and run it to the battery, will the one from the starter still have a charge even though it's cut? Sorry if this sounds dumb, I'm not a very good electrician

Do you have a Voltmeter or test light? Does the amp(s) LED light up like they are being powered?

One of my amps have an led light and I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be lit up when it has power and it's not. That's why I'm thinking they aren't getting any power. I checked all the connections and pulled the head unit to make sure there also. I have a voltmeter, can I check it at the fuses?

Just run the 8 gauge wire straight to your battery and not to the starter, i have never seen anyone wire their amps to the starter before so i would change that asap. Don't forget to make sure you have those amps well grounded and check the turn on lead from the deck to the amps, that should do it.

Thanks. I guess I'll just cap off and tape the end of the 8 gauge wire coming from the starter. The lead from the deck to the amp? I'm guessing that's the little wire? For me it's blue and it is connected.

Yes the small blue wire is the amp turn on lead, rewire as i suggested and double check everything and it should work......unless both amps are blown.

Don't forget to make sure you have those amps well grounded and check the turn on lead from the deck to the amps, that should do it.

Its still a constant 12V source I wouldn't do it, but can't picture why it would cause any problems :dunno:

I think I have an idea what could be causing the problem. It all starts with bringing the TY to an auto electrician shop :rant: I didn't want to, but had no other option because it's my DD and I'm not a good electrician.I had to get some electrical issues taken care of. The small fuseable link that is near the starter is exposed!!! and they just wrapped electrical tape around it!!!!! :rant: So this will be better if I run it straight to the battery that is like 1 foot away and it will eliminate that small/useless fuseable link all together. Should be fine, this is how it's supposed to be done anyways.

Well....Just got done cutting the wire and running it straight to the battery. Went to see if it works and one amp was working. Ok, maybe a blown fuse in the fuse block. Switched them around and still only the one amp is working. So I reconnect and make better connections to the amp that had no power, tried it and still nothing. So I pulled the mini fuses built into the amp, and sure enough two blown fuses. I just replaced those yesterday too!! Oh well, got two new fuses and works like a dream now!!! :tup: Oh yeah, no more engine noise either!!! It doesn't hum with increasing speed :lol:
