Re: Brake Upgrade

you can go with ls1's they will fit stock rims see cbrperformance.com

or SSBC has a two piston aluminum upgrade.

i did both kits and am extremely happy with the ls1's

cvcsmkr - you do prefer the LS1's over the SSBC? Why? My buddy is going to do the SSBC on his GN and pointed me to the site. I saw they had a kit for the Ty with 2 piston calipers. Right now they powder coat the caliper in 6 colors at no cost.

Also, their rotors(slotted) are supposed to be 5lbs lighter per side than stock for the GN rotors. Any idea if this holds true for the SyTy rotor upgrade from them?

Re: Brake Upgrade

The SSBC kit keeps the stock rotor diameter and upgrades to a 2 piston aluminum caliper, but there calipers are just as heavy as the stock cast iron ones, and no thee rotors are just as heavy as stock.

I have driven a Ty with the SSBC front upgrade and didnt really feel any differance with them, i was not impressed for what they cost.

The 98+ F-body front brakes are 12" rotors with 2 piston PBR calipers and rear 12" rotors with single piston PBR calipers with an intergral drum parking brake, and these brakes are awesome, and can you can do all 4 wheels for what the SSBC kit cost. Also they will fit inside the stock 16" wheels with no problems.

as hotrod said.
my ssbc caliper snapped in half, the company did make good and gave me 2 brand new ones.
but after that, i went with the ls1's.
its no comparison IMO.
the ls1's are not much more expensive.

Re: Brake Upgrade

I haven't driven the SSBC but I think issue with the stock brakes in rotor size and thickness. I have driven the dual piston 2nd gen S-series and I wasn't all that impressed. Atleast not impress like I was with the Baers or LS1 kits.

IMO I still think besides make the stock brakes functional, they are waste of money to use any fancy performance parts. Your better off putting your money otwards the LS1 kit.

Re: Brake Upgrade

I didn't search to compare prices or parts involved, but if you need readily available LS1 F-body brakes and don't mind used parts, try here:

http://www.tacreationsusa.com/suspensi.htm

Like I said, I haven't looked into the LS1 brake upgrade at all yet so I don't know prices and I'm too sleepy to search, so if their prices suck in comparison to others, then nevermind.

I have ordered parts for my Camaro from them and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.
