How tell if my Engine is correct for the truck

Hey guys

I was looking over my Engine thats now out of the truck. I was looking at the block for a VIN # so i could see if its the factory block to the truck.

I have enclosed pics of the markings i found ..

Check out this thread. The front pad at least looks like a Syclone block.

Thanks for the info..

Using that thread i located the VIN stamping ..

It turns out that i have the factory numbers matching block.. :tup:



What bothered me was the SG1 located on the back left hand bell housing pad...

In the Buick world the SG1 (109) block was a service replacement unit . Those also didn't have VIN numbers on them....

SGI is the type of iron the block is made of. Also called cast iron, ductile iron, or spheroidal graphite iron, which is where SGI comes from.

I'm wondering if the Buick crowd has been using SGI on their blocks as a designation for something not even related to it. Pretty weird that no one has ever come across this info and questioned the authenticity of that code being related to it being a replacement block. I find it much more likely that it's also an SGI marking, indicating the same thing as the 4.3L...which is what type of iron it's made of.
