I am relocating the battery to the rear of my Ty and I was wondering what is the best place to tie in the 10 ga wire from the alternator? I would rather not run it all the way to the back, I was thinking at the starter solenoid where the positive cable will end up. Any better ideas?

I ran a stereo shop for quite some time. Every relocation that we did we always ran a wire from the alternator directly to the battery, also you need to look at where you accessories wires that are at the stock battery location are going to go. Sometimes we just jumped them right to the alternator or we had a distribution block at the original battery location. In any event I would run a wire with a fusible link to the battery in the rear. Preferably larger wire than that of stock just because that always helps and would relieve any additional strain the alternator would have if you ever put a stereo or other equipment in. if you need anything else let me know. I had thought of running a fused distribution block in the engine compartment, but since I only had the starter cable and the alternator cable hooked directly to the stock battery location I guess I will just run an 8ga wire from the alternator back to the battery along with the 1ga lead from the battery to the starter. I will be grounding the engine block to the frame up front and the battery to the frame in back. Does anyone know if the 10ga wire from the alternator is the same one used by a 4 pole kill sitch to shut down both the battery and the alternator?

u can put a pc680 batterey under were your factory bat goes qand it is really small that way u dont have to relocate

I think I will go with the distribution block idea, I have used them many times in stereo installs. I can run a 1 ga from the battery to the block and 4 ga to the starter and 8 ga to the alternator. I am moving the battery to the back so I can use the box created by my old ATR battery relocate kit as a cold air intake. I have removed the passenger side fog lamp so it should have a bit of a ram air effect as well.

Remember that 'electrically speaking' any point along a wire is the same...ie, it doesn't make any diffference electrically where u tap a wire for 12v, it still works the same (except for large-current circuits where longer wires drop the voltage more). Therefore, it is just fine to connect the alt to the hot wire on the starter...if that 2ga wire will handle the starter current flow, it certainly will handle the alternator output. I ran mine that way till it was stolen.....

Big Mike, I checked that Ron Francis web-site, and their battery cables are $129 !!!!!
That doesn't include a battery box, nor mouning brackets.
NAPA or your local auto parts store sells 2ga wire for $ 2 to $3 a foot and the ground only needs to be about 3' long to reach thru the floor to the frame...
The battery box was $14 at my local store last w/e.

Is it a (Ford) starter relay? Normally open or NC?
