quick boost question

on a fully forged shortblock. rods, pistons, crank, stock block. - how much boost can we throw at them? running a rpm 70mm turbo? i have a 90 degree intake elbow and edelbrock manifold

even air/fuel distribution amongst cylinders, and good tune/no detonation, and good ignition setup...i'd venture to say stick to 24psi peak.

do you want speed or reliability? what's your goals?

until your tune is spot on , i would say 8psi . Once you have datalogging to prove there is no knock/detonation from 1k rpm - 5k rpm , then worry about more boost . Mike's peak boost estimate seems very close , but your build may not agree with that . Its really something you have to crawl into and even then its what your truck likes , not what youd like .

cool thanks alot guys. they have been doing alot of loggin etc. but we didn't wanna push the reliability of the motor.

my goals are i just wanna click off a 11.9x pass, i'm also running on 110 octane. , so that should help us out a little bit. we are only on 14 psi of boost. as of right now

you should be able to do that with no problems at your current boost levels...with a 62mm turbo and 12-13# of boost, I ran a 12.13 at Nats in very hot conditions....I wasn't running race fuel or meth either.

there is a horsepower limit on the stock block.

many trucks make different power on different boost levels. so to say a stock block can handle so much boost would be phoney, but basing it upon horsepower level would be more realisic.

some guys run more timing and less boost. some run less timing and more boost. depends on how they are tuned.

but the block can only handle so much hp

but what do you consider stock block? just a casting number? Can it be half filled? Can it be overbored? How fast are you wanting to spin it to make power? Can it be sleeved? Can it be oddfire?

You still can't put some random horsepower limit on a "stock block" without giving some other parameters also. It's all just going to be speculatory anyway.

My question to you is, why does this matter anyway? Do you have a personal goal to have a 1,000hp goal, or something similar? Do you want a 10sec truck? I still say you're being way too ambiguous.

actually i do want a ten second truck. i probably should have went with a ls platform, so much easier to get there, and no it is a stock block. lol not oddfire, not sleeved, don't wanna spin more than 5800-6000 rpm.
