They all "need a tune"

After selling my syclone 4 years ago and owning 4 cars after, I can honestly say I miss having a SyTy.

So I have been looking for a used truck, would like a mild build truck, maybe a rebuilt motor with nice internals and a trans rebuild. But every truck that is modded is "in need of a tune". How people spend 5-8 k on a motor and mods and cheap out on a tune is beyond me. So should I look at these trucks or just wait it out for a good one?

Re: They all "need a tune"

Depends on the truck. Some genuinely have a bad combination and are hell to tune, which is why it "needs a tune". Some people honestly think that they can slap hard parts on and have it haul ass (like an old carb'd small block). When they realize it doesn't work that way, they sell it, "in need of a tune". Some people have good intentions, only to have life change or run out of funds or have no local tuning resource and sell it "in need of a tune".

I would consider all but the first one (unless it's cheap and I can redo the combination without too much out of pocket).

Re: They all "need a tune"

I got a ty a few months again. Had a few mods bigger turbo injectors on on. A tune is ur most important mod. Hood Tunes is the man to get Syty up and going on tunes. Like any other LT1 or Ls1 or mustang dodge on on. They all need a tune. So Just look around for a Syty that has what u want. A tune is a phone call away.

Wow dude I wish I could use tuning and a good combo as a selling point. I'm on the fence about what to do with the truck. I am giving serious thought to putting it back to stock just so I can get decent money out of it then sell the aftermarket stuff. Everyone who has called me on the truck has 0 appreciation for what I have done to it. What these guys don't realize is that the truck is tuned for the combo. So if I give to them for the 6k they want to buy it for instead of the $8500 Im aksing, what will they do? They'll pay 6k, then show up here looking for a 20g, 9/11, afpr, 3 bar, 60's, chip, wb, gauges, blah blah blah. Then they'll think they did it right by paying an extra 3-4k for those parts alone.

Good luck and hope you find what you're looking for.

Mike, I agree with others, hold firm to your price or remove the parts and sell the truck and parts separate. May be more lucrative that way anyway, esp. if it's worth your time.

Some of them are completely ****ed up, and rather than saying that a piston is melted and the compression is 75psi in 1 cylinder, they say it "needs a tune" so you'll dismiss signs that something isn't right.

Re: They all "need a tune"

Any time somebody says "Needs a tune up" or "needs blah blah blah" I assume that the vehicle is junk and the seller is lying.

Re: They all "need a tune"

I would normally agree with what's been said here but after putting my truck up for sale and dealing with people and what they automatically know about you, the truck and how bad the inside cylinder walls of your motor look before even ever looking the truck over in person or talkign to you amazes me.

I would just suggest you look over the truck well and being a previous owner you know about the basics ie injector tick, shitty stock idle, etc

My favorite is the oil pressure reads really low, just needs a new sending unit. :rotf:
