Truck cranks fine, but no start

So I was driving in traffic last week, the Ty was running just fine...nothing out of the

ordinary, and as soon as I came to a stop it shut down like someone turned the key off.

Threw it into park and tried to start it but it just cranked over. The check engine light came

on as soon as I tried to fire it back up. The fuel pump is kicking on and it's not the fuel

pump relay. I also swapped out the ignition control module I had from awhile back and

that didnt do the trick either. So I took off the connector to control module and tested it

while a buddy cranked it over and I got no power coming through it. I havent pulled the ecu

yet but I'm thinking that could be the problem. I dont know of anything else that's between

the ignition switch and the connector to the distributor. It's cranking over perfectly, it just

doesn't seem to want to fire...any ideas?

Not trying to insult your intelligence, but is there gas in it? I only ask because I've run out of gas a couple of times, thinking I had enough to get where I was going. Driving the green/grey again?

While you have someone cranking the truck while it is acting up (not starting) smack the ECM with somthing like a screwdriver handle or such. If it fires off when you tap on the ECM, you need a new ECM.

Haha, ya steve I just filled it up the night before. Theres about 20 miles on the full tank. It been sitting since last Tuesday. I had to break out the M3 unfortunately. And I just read the link, wheres chart A-3?

More than likily the ignition module went out inside the distributor. I have had that exact same thing happen to me in my drive way a couple of times.

Make sure you buy an AC/Delco or you will be replacing it again in a couple of months. Clean the spot on the distributor when it mounts really well. Maybe even sand it clean. Then use the thermal paste that comes with it and put it on the Ignition module before you bolt it back in. Bet you it starts right back up.

The ignition module is the achilles heal of these vehicles. They go out a lot more often then they should.

Had this problem few weeks ago was the coil pickup under distributor

Ya I replaced the module Paul but it didn't do the trick. I have a distributor to put in it but what's the point if there's no power getting to it?

Not the module replace the pickup

this may sound dumb but did you check the fuze under the dash i think its the one on the bottom left corner mine poped and i was trying to figure it out and it ended up being the fuse .....

correct, ECM A or B, check both

Not the module replace the pickup

Ya, but I have no power going to my distributor. So it's somewhere before the pick-up.

Ya checked both of them, neither were popped at all, and as soon as I plugged them back in it started my fuel pump again. So both are fine.

Just an idea.......if i remember right the oil sending unit is inline of the distributor and if the sending unit goes bad or you loose oil pressure it shuts off the distributor.
