Re: Typhoon Engine Rebuild?

I am rebuilding mine at the moment.
I hate it and it's an absolute pain in the ass and I never ever ever ever ever ever want to do it again.

However...it is allowing me to know what actually is in it and on it rather than getting one that's already been put in. Also it's giving me a good education on these trucks as where I didn't have much when I started.

I found this motor on ebay? 110666812187 I says 1992-1993 GMC Typhoon 4.3L Motor V6 LB4 Engine NEW. Would this be a good way to go?

I would not have any faith in that engine. It's equipped with a TBI manifold. The seller obviously knows nothing about SyTys based on that photo. That engine is probably equipped with regular LB4 internals.

Go through one of the vendors on this board for an engine. Campbell Auto, RPM etc.

Re: Typhoon Engine Rebuild?

Another one of the reasons I wound up doing a rebuild vs new engine is I wanted matching numbers from the block to the truck as well, so that may be something you would want to keep in mind too.

Re: Typhoon Engine Rebuild?

Why do you want to rebuild it? is it not working or leaking/smoke/under powered?

Maybe it just needs freshened up.

I learned a long time ago not to mess with it if it ain't broke :D

Re: Typhoon Engine Rebuild?

I remember reading on the forum someone said "All and any low milage SyTy engines should be assumed to need a rebuild unless proven other wise"

+1

Either a Votec swap or freshen yours up!!!!

Make sure you don't take any shortcuts and spent accordingly while it's out.

To build the bottom end and such is going to cost you more than 2K!!!

Re: Typhoon Engine Rebuild?

All of the quotes I have received were $3800-$4100 to pull the motor, port the heads, compcam, and .30 over bore. I have built a few motors but not sure I trust myself enough on this one.
