Typhoon photoshoot

Re: Typhoon photoshoot

OK, to follow up on my post regarding post-processing (was darkroom, now photoshop). I realize lots of folks can't afford a photoshop license, so check out GIMP. It is freeware and does pretty much anything PS can do. My daughter is nearing her degree in digital graphic arts/animation. She has both, but prefers GIMP over PS.

The old darkroom technique to tame a blown out feature was to wave a lollipop-shaped shade around over the overexposed object during the exposure of the photo paper. The modern equivalent is the 'dodge/burn' tool in PS or GIMP. Remember, if the viewer can tell it was photoshopped,it was not photoshopped correctly...

IMO- I dont see any vignetting (spelling) in her pics at all - unless I am completely mistaken that is when you add black around the photo to highlight the person/item in the photo - something ALMOST ALL pro's do. Photography is all about repitition and playing with different settings, poses, angles - thats how you learn! She did fine for someone just beginning!

the 2nd set of pics of the senior portraits?

there is way to much and yes pros use it, way to much.. some people hate it others love it.. personally i think it looks dumb.

I agree with Eric. It's over used and has become a crutch. If your composition/lighting is strong enough, you don't have to hide any piece of the photo.

Take a look at my buddy's pics again. Let me know if you find one with vignetting.

Re: Typhoon photoshoot

i'll have too look through them more when i get home tonight :D

Just keep in mind when you are looking through them that there is very little to no post processing. Pete does most everything with just the camera and lighting/strobes/etc.

Edit: Be sure to check out his Flickr stream. A lot of that stuff is loaded right after pulling it off the camera.

Back on topic:

It is nice to see some trucks getting more than just an "I took some pics" treatment. I always wanted to take my truck up to Rocky Mtn National Park with Pete, but we never got the opportunity before I sold it.
