weak points on engine

i just got a Syclone i been a turbo buick guy mostly , i was wondering whars some of the weak points of a sy engine i heard rods and cranks, so as long as i dont detonate im ok ? thanks

knock will kill it for sure. Best bang for the buck are peripheral bolt-ons to a stock motor. Once you start modding the motor it snowballs into an avalanche. :2cents:

but basically the rods would be the first thing to go.

ok i looking to do boltons , i just needed to know what to look out for before i get too crarried away .

get an alky kit... alky control is one of the most tried and tested kits and allows you to tuirn up the boost/run stock boost with a better degree of knock control/tuning.

what are your goals?

Before doing any mods. Get datamaster and get it running with KR under control. Then once that is done. As you mod continue logging as you go. These engine wont last long with knock. Many have found out.

If you keep it tuned and KR under control it will last alot longer.

They can be alot of fun or a nightmare. It cost a big chunk of money to build one once. Some have have replaced 2 or 3 engines.

They're only as weak as the jackstands that hold them off the floor


Seriously, get DM. Poor maintenance, and modding without knowing the results are the true weak points.... and abusing them.

Bolt on's mean nothing with these trucks if the truck isn't running right to begin with or if it's out of tune. I've seen trucks with the hardware to run 11's all day long run 13's lol because of the tune.
With that said, do what others have mentioned and have the truck gone over with a datalogger like datamaster. Post up on this forum to see who's close to you that has datamaster and can spend two hours of there life to help you save thousands of dollars and many hours of your life because these trucks don't handle abuse like turbo regals can.

Weak points on these engines? Ya their is a few, basically everything between the undersized throttle body to the oil pan.....:rotf:

most common fail would be to spun bearings due to detonation mainly. IMO

Most common failure due to detonation,the pistons.
The TB is not too small. When you are forcing pressurized air. It is not a restriction unless you are making an all out max effort big engine.

i ordered the data cable so i can run datamaster and see how my truck is , i plan on getting a baseline and see how it runs
