I don't know if it makes a difference with a SyTy but basicly the first number is about what temps you will be driving in. People switch from 5W to 10W depending if it is winter or summer time. I don't see why it would have any effects, but if I were you...I would call the garage and my next change would be free with your normal 10W30

Hell you can get your oil changed at the chevy dealer for $20, Buy the time you buy the oil, filter, scrape skin off your hands, and figure out what to do with the old oil its not a bad price.

I go to Viking Chevrolet. They know what oil to put in. They even asked me about what I prefer for oil. I also check the level when they are done. I don’t see the big deal.
I main reason I do it is because I got a 5 year 100k mile warranty on the truck. It covers the engine and drivetrain. The warranty requires I get my oil changed so you can provided maintenance records. Nothing has broken so far. I think I need to get to the drag strip more often.

5w vs 10w is what the oil thickness is at start up befor the engine is warm then they are both 30
They use 5w30 in newer engine with tighter tolerances and dont have any issues We run alot of 10w30 in newer stuff to. I dont think It should matter but I would make sure to change back just for added assurance

If you can I would watch them change the oil some tiem and make sure they are putting mobile 1 in know what oil to use and actually using are 2 diffrent things $20 is more than the oil that harely cover the labor at my dealer
Do you have you paper work on you 5/100k (I work at a dealer) just wondering if it is threw GM never seen a service contract on a vehicle 10 years or older :tup:

No I have an Autosave warranty. Its not through the dealer. I should go in and get my oil changed again anyways. I dont change it often because I have only put 1,000 miles on it in 2 years.

I have yet to find a dealership that has so many diff. brand name oils that they can ask the customer which one they want. Locally I have not seen anyone offering a $20 oil change that includes a filter. For any stealership, the name of the game is time because time is money. I don't know any oil change monkey's that actually take the time to fill an oil filter before it is installed let alone fill it multiple times as the paper absorbes the oil. There are other ways to document an oil change for your warranty purposes. Read the fine print to see if they specify that it has to be at a dealership. Since your wife is now part of the site, she can video tape your oil change receipt, the mileage and you changing your oil. Or you can tape her doing it.

Yeah you have some good points. I will be more carefull about the oil changes and will check my warranty agian to see if I can really just do it myself.

Trust me I know what you're talking about. One time my clutch plate exploded on my s10 and they wanted me to buy a new tranny. A holes.
The Sy gets its oil changed every 300 miles anyways. Just for the warranty purposes. its every 3000 miles or every 3 months. 3 months comes a lot faster.

Let me tell you something, I seen ahole at the dealers cross tread oil filter just because he was having a bad day! Other time i seen another ahole put a wrong filter on a suv, started it, knocked bad, he then LOOKED up the right filter.

I'm glad my local Chevy dealer is actually an exception. They're great. 8 or 10 world class techs. Hell, last time I took my Blazer there, they repaired my broken suspension and it "fixed" about 4 other problems I was having before the suspension busted. I laugh evertime I see the word "stealership". It must suck to have to deal with that kind of service.
