Ha! Man this forum is dead!

Re: Ha! Man this forum is dead! This Canadian is still around, although just lurking now. Don't visit nearly as much since I sold the Sy a few years back.

    Battery polarity reversed

Re: Battery polarity reversed So days go by, then they called you in, and they still hadn't figured out that they charged the battery backwards? WOW! It happens, (had a customer tow their van into me for just that reason) but Dave is right, that's a real Rookie mistake. What happens @ 3000...

    steering column smoke ?

Re: steering column smoke ? Probably your turn signal switch. Quite common for the contacts to "arc" a little bit and burn the old dried out grease that was used to lubricate the contacts. I'll bet you had just used your signals prior to seeing the elusive smoke.

Phantom Wipe... Need Correct part numbers.

Re: Phantom Wipe... Need Correct part numbers. You're welcome to borrow my tool as well Rob. Not that I'm trying to steal Derek's thunder, but I'm a little closer... :)

Phantom Wipe... Need Correct part numbers.

Re: Phantom Wipe... Need Correct part numbers. Just for reference, what I've seen some guys do is pull the wiper fuse (and wire it into the new harness) and wire a simple rocker switch that's somewhere accessible. This kills the wipers until you need them, so you simply flip the rocker switch...

    Alternator not charging

Re: Alternator not charging How did you determine that you had 11.99 volts? A DVOM on the battery? If you've got voltage at both of the above points then it should be charging. Put a meter on the battery, take the reading, and then start the truck and take another reading....

    Alternator not charging

Re: Alternator not charging Take a test light and see if it "lights" when you touch the B+ stud on the back of the Alternator. Truck doesn't need to be running for this test. If yes, then unplug the 2 wire connector and with the ign ON see if the test light "lights" when you touch the...

    Starter won't stop

Re: Starter won't stop I've seen this happen a few time throughout my career. 9 times out of 10 it's the solenoid that has failed and kept the starter engaged. I'm going to assume that your truck didn't actually start when the starter stuck, so to me that rules out an ignition switch/steering...

    lightswitch triggers fuelpump/ecm

Re: lightswitch triggers fuelpump/ecm And the plot thickens... Unplugging the coil makes sense, since the grey connector provides B+ for both the coil and the Ign module. Since we suspect the module is sending a phantom signal to the ECM, shutting it down just confirms our suspicion since...

    lightswitch triggers fuelpump/ecm

Re: lightswitch triggers fuelpump/ecm If something got disconnected then something wouldn't be working, which is the opposite to what you've got happening. So I doubt it's a connection issue. Code 43 is an ESC error, which is spark timing. So I guess this issue *could* possibly throw an ESC...

    lightswitch triggers fuelpump/ecm

Re: lightswitch triggers fuelpump/ecm The only place the turn signal wires, the headlight & high beam wires, and the brake light circuits all come together is within the steering column. Having said that, I can't think of any ECM wiriing in the column except the Ign switch, and it's already on...

    lightswitch triggers fuelpump/ecm

Re: lightswitch triggers fuelpump/ecm You're right, if the lighting were feeding the relay directly it should be on all the time. That's why I asked about tapping the brake lights. Alright, this changes my thinking slightly. Since the ECM is looking for a pulse from the distributor to run...
