Phantom Wipe... Need Correct part numbers.

Hey all.. I got that phantom wipe problem on my Sy. At first it would happen once or twice a month which didn't bother me much.. Now its every dam time I drive the thing and I am actually getting annoyed with it. So I have read a bunch of threads on here and on s10 forums and there seems to be a newer part number with the "resister" fix. Does any one know the correct ac delco/gm part number(s)? And do I need the stalk and the wiper switch??? There is quite a bit of info out there but some say the problem comes back while others say the problem hasn't been back. Any help would be much appreciated.:tup:


FYI: My Sy still is has cruise/tilt/delay if that makes a difference on part number.

I had almost forgotten about this neat S-truck feature, until the first time I drove 0187...

For the '91-94 blazers the correct part number (for the tilt colums) is 26030425. This part will run me $131 and is also a special order item.

ok... reading that TSB is for S10s up to 1990. So would the part number for the 1991 and up blazers/jimmys work for the Sy?

Rob, I had it. I went to a pick your part and yarded 5-6 of the boards out of the wiper motors, out of anything that used the same motor. Astrovans and Camaros, I think. First one I plugged in worked.

I could grab the wiper, physically move it with my hand, and the windshield squirters would squirt. Stupid thing.

I went through this last year on my ty, replaced the pc board on the wiper motor that didnt fix it, changed the whole wiper stalk didnt fix it,:rant: after I changed the stalk I took it to a mechanic he said it was the park circut that wasnt grounding, thats in side of the motor so I finally changed the wiper motor- bingo :lol:

ok, bring up an old thread. I tried a new wiper motor board. Still does the same crap. I am really getting tired of this and want to fix this.. So is my next step should be to replace the wiper switch on the column? If so is there a write up on how to do it by chance? Also does anyone have the correct part number as I have come across several different numbers for pre 1990 and 1991 jimmy/blazers but nothing confirming for an s10/syclone.

I had the phantom wipe and a new turn stalk fixed it. I looked for the closest match visual wise. Not positive, but you might have to pull the wheel to tear into it. I already had the wheel off when I swapped mine, working on the whole column.

I'm pretty sure that the issue will be in the turn signal switch (the piece the stalk mounts in to). I have the new part, I just haven't had the time to install it in my Ty yet. My Ty does this all the time, when you signal, ghost wipe, hit a hard enough bump, ghost wipe. I'm sure it has to be that switch, there is nothing else that would cause the wipers to turn on when you hit the signal.
You do have to pull the wheel and disassemble the column to get this switch out. It's not that bad of a job, just remember to tie a string to the old switch wiring as you pull it out so you can pull the new one back in.

Just for reference, what I've seen some guys do is pull the wiper fuse (and wire it into the new harness) and wire a simple rocker switch that's somewhere accessible. This kills the wipers until you need them, so you simply flip the rocker switch. Not the proper fix, but a decent repair considering the cost of a new switch...

Changing the wiper switch worked for me in my '91 Jimmy! Took less than 1/2 an hour, but I have the steering wheel lock ring removal tool.

Thanks for the idea. I will first try the switch as I prefer not to have a rocker. If it doesn't work then I may do just that as I will not want to put more money into the Phantom fix. Lol
