    Hope I didn't blow it!

    Re: Hope I didn't blow it! I inspected #6 piston a little closer yesterday evening and the pitting is more than I thought but I looks like it's just shy of the outer edges. I took a couple of pics with my phone. The first is #4 cyl and the second is #6. ;

    Hope I didn't blow it!

Re: Hope I didn't blow it! The pistons are completely stock. This was a new crate motor that was never installed in a vehicle at PAS. The guy I bought the motor and tranny from had bought it from Ray Moore back in 1995 to use in a project El Camino. That never happened and it's been in...

    Hope I didn't blow it!

Re: Hope I didn't blow it! Windedv6, that sounds very close to what I've got going on. Where did you get your new piston/pin, rings etc, cost? Also the exhaust and intake valves for #6 got overheated and melted out of shape. The head appears good and the cylinder wall is not scarred...

    Hope I didn't blow it!

Re: Hope I didn't blow it! I've got a couple of sy/ty guys here (Timbo & Akryder86) who have done builds before and they may be able to help me fix this. A compression test was performed by Alaska Sales & Service before the head was pulled and these were the results: #1@125lbs #2@130lbs...

    Hope I didn't blow it!

Re: Hope I didn't blow it! Well, my truck is back home but not running. The problem is only with #6 cylinder. For some reason it was the only one that got really hot and damaged by the detonation. Both valves got so hot they curve inward and no longer seat properly on the head. The piston...

    Hope I didn't blow it!

Re: Hope I didn't blow it! The turbo side head has been pulled off and the valves definitely got overheated and warped. The piston wasn't punched through but it did have a nice divit in the center. The motor has been pulled and sent to a machine shop to completely check it out and put in a new...

    Hope I didn't blow it!

Re: Hope I didn't blow it! It's in the shop now. Should be torn down either today or tomorrow. I hadn't sold my original motor yet; maybe it was for a reason. Ya think? 87 Octane...Never again!

    Hope I didn't blow it!

Re: Hope I didn't blow it! No, nothing has been done with it yet. All I know for sure is no compression in #6. I'm hoping service can get it torn down this week.

    Hope I didn't blow it!

Re: Hope I didn't blow it! Still haven't torn down my motor yet to determine the exact damages. In sales training class this week and the service department is backed up. Hopefully will get to it later today or possibly tomorrow. So I'm driving our Corvair for now.

    Hope I didn't blow it!

Re: Hope I didn't blow it! Fortunately I work for a GM dealership and my service department is checking it out for me. What I know so far is there is no compression in #6 cyl and the vacuum for the brake assist was very low. The motor will have to be taken apart to determine the exact damage...

    Hope I didn't blow it!

Re: Hope I didn't blow it! I guess I'm not going to be so lucky. Last night I checked all the plug wires and they are okay. I also pulled the plugs and the spark plug on #6 cyl was toast. The negative electrode was broken off. Only a small stub remaining. The center electrode appeared ok but...

    Hope I didn't blow it!

Re: Hope I didn't blow it! I will be checking it out tonight. Whatever happens I certainly won't be using 87octane anymore. Learned my lesson on that one. I did get new plugs today so will check all the spark plug wires and replace any bad plugs. My oil pressure is still very good, no water or...

    Hope I didn't blow it!

Last fall I had a new motor & tranny installed in my Sy. It's all broke in and had been running great. Yesterday while on a short trip I ran it harder than I usually do and afterwards when I got into town my motor was running really bad. I pulled over and found that one of the vacuum hoses had...

Re: Black GMC Letters Was it Ray Moore? He lives in California. My new motor and tranny came through him originally.

New Alaska Owner - Sy #2227

Re: New Alaska Owner - Sy #2227 It was good to finally meet you face to face Tim. :D I'll talk to my wife and plan to bring our truck in sometime soon and have you detail it. I figured you would enjoy taking it for a spin plus it confirmed to me that the truck is indeed running like a...

New Alaska Owner - Sy #2227

Re: New Alaska Owner - Sy #2227 I'm out an about with it quite a bit, but I don't get out to Eagle River very much. I work at Bailey's Furniture at their new superstore at International and C street. I usually drive my Syclone to work but my wife drives it occasionally as well. We get a lot of...

Could you drive your SyTy Cross-Country?

Re: Could you drive your SyTy Cross-Country? Mine is pretty close to showroom condition. New Brakes, new crate motor and tranny, 56k on the odometer, awesome stereo, seats in new condition with the lumbar bulb even! Yea, I wouldn't hesitate driving it out of Alaska down the highway to the...

New Alaska Owner - Sy #2227

Re: New Alaska Owner - Sy #2227 Hey guys! Haven't looked at the site in a few days and just saw your postings. Aside from Jake (previous owner of #2227) Montana is the only other Syty person I've met here. I have spoken with Tim once on the phone but haven't actually met yet. I did get a...
