1 wire datamaster diy cable hook up

I got a cable from a member that has one wire that goed to the truck. Does it go to M? Do I need to short any of the other ports? I did a search and saw a few different ways.

My guess is that it goes to the M on the ECM port. The cable probably has a ground somewhere so you won't have to put anything in the A port.

So that is all that is needed to DYI datamaster cable? I would like to make one that I can do a custom install with my laptop. Thanks.
