Hi all,
just curious about what type of boost pressure (while boosting on the brake) have people seen w/a stock stall torque converter w/a 12 cm turbine housing installed on a TDO6H20G turbo?
Were you able to get to peek stall? 2100RPM?

I'ts not that usefull, but I know a 1500 stall wont build boost with the pedal on the floor, and a 2800 will work great.

As you know the 12cm2 housings are pretty rare. Suposedly the 20g10cm2 is supose spool fine with a stock converter, but I haven't very many of those either. On the forum I can't specifically think of anyone who has one, its only heresey. I often seen the 20g14cm2 and everyone say they spool horrible with the stock converter.

I have a 20g with 12cm exhaust housing. Unfortunately the turbo has gone in just last week and got the truck finally started(flooded it different post). I have not driven it yet but I am looking forward to it. Once I drive it, I can post as to how much more lag there will be over stock. Sorry couldn't be of more help today.

Something to keep in mind:
TD06 -stock and TD06H use different turbine wheels. The H wheel is bigger and will not slide into exhaust housings designed for the non-H wheel (however they can be machined)

Non-H turbine exhaust housings:
8cm
10cm
12cm - Im pretty sure

H turbine exhaust housings:
14cm
+ ?

Now I can only assume the H wheel is better for top end (I don't know if the wheel is any more effecient of a design however) due to its larger size.

If you buy a '20g' turbo for a syclone application, most of the time it will be a TD06H-20G. To adapt this to the smaller housing you will need to have the housing machined to fit the H turbine wheel. However if you buy or modify a stock TD06-17C turbo to fit a 20G compressor wheel, you have the option to bolt on any of the non-H turbine housings without any modifications. Without any knowlege of the effeciency of the H vs non-H turbine wheels, I would believe that the non-H will spool faster due to its smaller size.

Finding a TD06H-20g for sale is usually much easier then a converted stock turbo, so there may be a price insentive to go with the H turbine if you find one. This was exactly my case, I have an H turbine with a machined 12cm housing. It is definately a stronger turbo, It does take more to spool then the stock turbo, but once it starts building boost, your smile will return. It seems to build VERY fast once it reaches positive boost and pulls very hard up to the targeted boost level.

I had a very low stall (~1500) converter when I switched to the TDO6H-20G/12cm. I had trouble spooling the stock turbo (11 second reaction times at the track as I sat there building the desired boost), and could in NO way spool the H wheeled 12cm even with the throttle at 100%. I went strait to a 2800 stall converter and love the combo. Although I am considering switching to the 14cm housing I have now that I should have enough converter for it.

In my opinion its a great little stockish upgrade. Although, stepping up from here pretty much requires a bigger downpipe, and if you do some calculations, the PTE kits will start to look pretty reasonably priced.

Well you can get a 3in downpipe for thr stock/20G turbo from JS Manufacturing for 350 in mild steel or 450 in SS. Its always an option.

There is also a place on the net called Deadbolt www.boostplanet.com that sell some hybrid 20G's with a TDO6H 20G 8,10,12,14 cm2 housing and you can get up to a 60-1 garret compressor housing, which should be enough to flow close to 600HP i think?

Im thinking about going this way for my Ty, as the turbo is less than 600 i believe brand new and then th DP and for less that a grand your making some power.

And yes are far as i know the 2800 stall will work great with the 14cm2 housing as well.

I was finally able to get the truck out tonight and drive it. I have a stock converter and a hybrid (50 trim) 20g with 12cm exhaust housing. My first try I was able to see 1psi on my brake torque. Had I gone through the patented street start I would think I could get a few more pounds on the launch. The biggest difference as far as lag is concerned, I felt was driving the truck around town. When I usually quarter throttle it, I would start making boost. Not anymore, it takes more gas and longer to make boost around town.

I the flip side, staying on the gas hard, the truck pulled harder. The stocker to me felt like at 50mph, the turbo would start to fade. Now it keeps pulling.

That lends me to believe the 12cm is absolutely the biggest housing you'll be able to use with the stock converter (although heads and cam would probly change this a little). And it's probably leaning on the edge of being too big.

One needs to be able to build at least 5psi on a launch.

I think how free flowing AFTER the housing will make a big difference, as well as how much someone wants to play with chips as there are a lot of tricks you can do to make things spool better.

I am still learning new tricks and new things are being discovered and programmed to help.

BTW, the latest XDF we are about to update for tunerpro has some notes on this.

I had the td06h20g (clipped) 14cm2 housing from Jerry @ deadbolt. Awesome turbo but could not make any boost on the launch with a stock converter. Really didn't start to spool till 2800-2900, which was nice to save gas, but sucked for racing. I bought a tci 3000 flash stall and it worked great, wanted more power so i sent it back and got the garrett hybrid with the 60-1 wheel. I also "depucked" the exhaust housing for better flow, works very well but you need to adjust wastegate a little, 2 turns did it perfect for me. Jerry is a great guy to deal with and his turn around is awesome, very knowledgeable.

20g stock conv and stock chip, laggy as shit. Thats the prob I have too. Like Jeff said chipping and timing will help(heard from many about this). My next step is a chip to see how much help it can give me. Do a 2800-3000 if you can, should make all the diff in the world. Also the top end for me pulles tons harder than before(stock turbo). :tup:

So you have a 12 cm turbine housing on yours also???

One difference that might coming to play is that I have read that it seems like the Typhoon came with a slightly tighter Torque Converter. Since Beavis is using a stock chip, I magine that you could do quite a bit to help spool up.

Well, my converter stalls to 2100 RPM & that's it. I am sure if I had a 2800 stall it would really wake up.
But since it seems to be working pretty good right now I will mess with it & see if I can run 11's.

I still have the factory downpipe w/3" pipe after the cat & a straight through muffler.
I can build any amount of boost w/the brake on.
It is runnig pretty good w/the 12 cm housing so far.
I'll need to take it to a track & find out how much faster it is.

I have a 20G and when buyin my 9/11 from Waller he recomended i got the 2800 one to get better response. I will soon be able to tell the difference between stock TC and the new one.
Im also planing to have a TC lock up switch.
