Something to keep in mind:
TD06 -stock and TD06H use different turbine wheels. The H wheel is bigger and will not slide into exhaust housings designed for the non-H wheel (however they can be machined)
Non-H turbine exhaust housings:
8cm
10cm
12cm - Im pretty sure
H turbine exhaust housings:
14cm
+ ?
Now I can only assume the H wheel is better for top end (I don't know if the wheel is any more effecient of a design however) due to its larger size.
If you buy a '20g' turbo for a syclone application, most of the time it will be a TD06H-20G. To adapt this to the smaller housing you will need to have the housing machined to fit the H turbine wheel. However if you buy or modify a stock TD06-17C turbo to fit a 20G compressor wheel, you have the option to bolt on any of the non-H turbine housings without any modifications. Without any knowlege of the effeciency of the H vs non-H turbine wheels, I would believe that the non-H will spool faster due to its smaller size.
Finding a TD06H-20g for sale is usually much easier then a converted stock turbo, so there may be a price insentive to go with the H turbine if you find one. This was exactly my case, I have an H turbine with a machined 12cm housing. It is definately a stronger turbo, It does take more to spool then the stock turbo, but once it starts building boost, your smile will return. It seems to build VERY fast once it reaches positive boost and pulls very hard up to the targeted boost level.
I had a very low stall (~1500) converter when I switched to the TDO6H-20G/12cm. I had trouble spooling the stock turbo (11 second reaction times at the track as I sat there building the desired boost), and could in NO way spool the H wheeled 12cm even with the throttle at 100%. I went strait to a 2800 stall converter and love the combo. Although I am considering switching to the 14cm housing I have now that I should have enough converter for it.
In my opinion its a great little stockish upgrade. Although, stepping up from here pretty much requires a bigger downpipe, and if you do some calculations, the PTE kits will start to look pretty reasonably priced.
