2002 Z28

Went out cruising this evening and finally got me a decent race in. I knew I would win but it was the best I could do all night. Ran into a guy with a 200 Z28 Camaro, I asked him what he had done and he said full exhaust and a throttle body spacer. So I asked him if he wanted to go somewhere and run and he siad yes. I havent had a real race in months. So we go up to the spot. At first I thought he got a really good start because he kinda jumped me a little but I realized I was spinning, once I grabbed the road I got way ahead of him, probably about 6 cars. At about half way, I had a good 10 cars on the guy and by the end I looked to see how fast I was going (100) and he was starting to pull ever so slightly but I still had a good 7-9 cars on him.

I'm gonna be a little skeptical about some of these kills, Ls1's pull like raped apes upper end with full exhaust and intake. Even with the 20g he has listed still very little top end compared to the v8. I had more mods on my ty with hours of tuning and strong ls-1 gave me a run for my money.

Re: 2002 Z28

i am not sure about the "throttle body spacer". but if the guy had a 6 speed, and couldnt drive, its totally possible that he lost. an ls1 car with full exhaust should run in the mid-high 12s.

Absolutly. I can see the 6-speed senario. unfortunatly they are out there. One of my previous rides was a 2001 z28. With bolt-ons and 3.73 went 12.30's.

Raped ape huh?

I have beat more than one ls1 car from a stop. from 13.50 cars to 11.90 cars. From a stop i can own about any ls1 car. My ty has only went 12.80's but has beaten cars way faster on the street. I know the LS1 is gods engine and all but its not unstopable.

Re: 2002 Z28

TYTILIDIE is in Colorado. Altitude changes everything. A Forced Induction car will be substantionally quicker compared to a NA car. I would bet that LS1 is a high 12 second car at sea level and high 13 or low 14 second at mile high altitude! While his is Ty proably is a low 13 second ride at that altitude.

Please read my entire post. I said upper end. I had a very hard time here in the chicago area racing ls-1's with more mods than he's posted. I would rip them off the line and they would get me around 80+mph.

Six - good point i didn't take into consideration the alt change. I suppose his truck would be more consistant but i don't see it dropping into the 11's if he was to run it at sea level.

No it would not run 11's. But a FI does not lose as much say .5 sec versus .9-1.2 sec for NA. Boost at Altitude is NASTY. Maybe we should all move to Colorado!!:rotf:

I agree at some thing closer to sea level the LS1 would pull up top, but at altitude I can believe that they were even and that the Ty raped the LS1 down low.

It's just a six

His turbo is not just a 20G turbo,it has the 57MM compressor wheel installed.

If that's the case, then I think there is something wrong with your truck. Yes, they should might pull at highway speeds, but by that time a street race is more or less over. Unless by "strong LS1" you mean a slightly modified.

I've ridden in Mike's Ty. I've been down to Colorado Springs with him on cruise nights. He is not BS'ing.

And we have been here before with people calling BS on him. Hence his "controversial kill poster" title (which he added as a joke, BTW)

:rotf: :rotf: :rotf: Hop on the plane junior and head up for a fun filled night of ssshhhpankage!!! Im not going to sit here and act like I have the fastest truck up here( I know I dont) or even really a fast ride, but on the street, I RARELY lose. Before you glorify the LSX, know that at the track, with an experienced driver, DR,s 6 Speed, exhaust, Ive seen these cars (mainly Camaros) run high 13's, low 14's. My best track time so far was a 14 flat. The track I race at is 1K' lower than here, I tuned for 17psi the night before up here and that KPa was about 201ish. When I got to hte track the next day, my first run was a 14.9@72 with 13*kr all the way down the track. When I looked at my log, I was still running 17psi but was in the 217KPa range  It sucked, I know my truck is capable of mid 13's. So I did some tuning and my next run was a 14 flat at 94 with 5-7*kr almost all the way then my damn battery died and lost tuning and was stuck with what I had for the rest fo the day. On the logs, the e.t. matched almost identical so I do use DM as a reference when tuning and my last DM run was 13.5@98 with a 1.9 60'. My 60's at the track were awful, 1.9's and 2.0's. I had problems holding boost, it was just a crappy day. But anyhow, Im getting ready to throw all my races on one tape and hopefully get someone here to digitize them and post them up. I got this particular race on tape so if I ever get everythign going, youll see it for yourself.

FWIW, I know that Mike's truck is a low 13-high 12 second truck. And yes, there are a lot of street races to be had up here

There is nothing wrong with my truck, most of the f-bodys i have been running are built pretty strong heads, cam, full exhaust, 12 bolt, etc.. Several have had their work done at LS1 Speed or Finish Line Perf. Its a good race up till around 100mph or so then they start to pull really hard. I have been using the 57mm 20g for a few years, got it from Deadbolt ent.

Ok, well you are racing much different cars than Mike raced.

Re: 2002 Z28

I posted a vid of a ls1 that was running 12.7's at the track awhile back.

He followed me home and tried to run me from 50-100 on the highway. We stayed even the entire time and my truck was stock ... surprised the HELL out of me that I didnt get spanked ---
