4x4 and 4 link?

I've read up and searched this carefully, but I have a question. I plan on getting rid of my leafs for a 4 link and coilovers. I talked to Steve at cando specialties and this it the answer I got back when I asked about his 2wd 2dr, bolt-on 4 link kit.

My message to him:

Hello,

I just had a few questions about your product. What is the difference
between the 4x4 and 2wd that will stop me from using this kit? I am going to front coilovers, so the cross member and torsion springs will be gone. Also, I'm only dropping 3" so will the floor still need to be cut? Thanks

-Maurice

His response:

I can't tell from personal experience. All I ever have bagged are 2WD
Blazers. The 4x4 frames I'm sure have different mounts than the 2WD. Which
if we make a bolt-on kit for a S10 truck 2WD or Blazer 2WD and the 4x4
mounts are different, it won't be able to bolt directly on. You'll be better
off finding a 2WD and comparing it to yours. If you think you can make
things work I'll sell you the parts.
Let me know,
Regards,
Steve

My question to you guys is what are the differences between the 2wd and 4wd rear end after the torsion springs and cross member are gone?

Re: 4x4 and 4 link?

The torsion bars and control arms have nothing to do with the rear end.

The mounting points for the leaf spring and shocks should be rather similar.
The bell tech leaf springs are listed as 2wd but yet they work fine on a SyTy.

My only concern would be the shock mounting points.

I know they don't affect the rear suspension, just wasn't sure if they'd get in the way or not. I'm not sure about this kit, but others they have come with new upper shock mounts.

Re: 4x4 and 4 link?

The other difference is the gas tank to contend with.
Sy its on the drivers side frame rail, Ty its between the frame rails above the rear axle.

I know the DPT rear coilover kit had a strange mount for the panhard bar to clear the tank.
If you go triangulated you eliminate the need for the panhard bar.
More stuff to think about... sorry

It is but not enough to where I would feel safe knowing it was locating the rear.

I'm sorry for the ignorance but what does "locating the rear" mean?

avoiding side-movement of the axle, so it stays centered.

this would do a better job, but will interfer with the gas tank.
