about the trans

I posted in my intro thread. I dont have a sy/ty. I have a 92 bravada. I think the drive train minus the motor is the same. I want to put a V8 in it. I'm just a little worried about the trans. This is kinda a low buck project. So I was wondering if a th350 will work in place of the 700. Something else I was just wondering about. Do the sy/ty's not come with the 8.5 rears? I've seen some pics and they just didnt look like 8.5's. Thanks for any help.

8.5's in S10's only came in v6 stick shift trucks, plus they were not around during the Sy/Ty years

Re: about the trans

They might not have put them in a s-truck then, but they were around. They started putting them in full size trucks in the early 80's. I just find it odd that they didnt put them in a performance truck. They had them in the grand nationals.

Re: about the trans

Lets put it this way, they where no around in the correct width, with the correct spring mounting, during the Sy/Ty years, does that explain it well enough for you?
GM also made cast iron front differental housings for the S-series, but they didn't put them in Sy/Ty's either

sytys split the load between 2 diffs front and rear GNs only 1

Yes I understand that. I already knew that. I was just saying it was odd GM didnt make them for the sy/ty's. Thats all.

GM didn't make the rear for the GN, they already had it, and used it, they, didn't have an off the shelf one doe an S-seires, so, they weren't going to build a special one for them, just like the TC, they used one they already had

Re: about the trans

OK. Anyway back to what I wanted to know. I did a search and found a bunch of threads on the th350/400 swaps. I noticed that the output shaft on the th400 had to be changed, but I didnt see anything on the 350. Is the stock one on the 350 the same as the 700? Also do you have to get a 4x4 trans or are they all the same?

Re: about the trans

Please, do. Joe adds more than you have, so far.

Here, this is where you can find the info you need. We discuss SyTy's here. SyTy's don't have 4 doors, nor TH 400 or TH350 transmissions. And the vast majority of SyTys have 4L60 transmissions, that work just fine for the majority of owners. Even behind V8's in our Pick-ups and other V8 GM cars.

So, am I too now on your "list"of "helpful" people?

Some do have th400 and th350's. They may have not come with them, but they have them now. You'r link didn't help. It had nothing to do with what I asked, and I have the book. I see how it going to be. You and joe can kiss my ass. Sorry if the rest of you are decent. Not to worry I won't be back.

Really show us the owners of all these 350 and 400 tranny swapped trucks, I bet they have those 8.5" S-series rear ends in them, that you claim were availiable, in early 90's, when the Sy/Ty's were being built

I'm sure you make your parents proud and you wonder why you feel nobody want to help you
