Almost a Bad day

I almost had a really bad day. :myclone:
I was working on my truck on Friday night I was just changing the fuel filter and was all done getting ready to take the last jack stand out. I put the jack under my truck just below the fuel filter is on the frame. As I was reaching for the jack I heard the jack start to move. And BAM the jack slid off the frame and right into the gas tank. :rant: I truck only fell about a ¼ inch into the tank right into the tank shield. Check for a leak, nothing, I guessed it was ok.

Come the next day and my shop had about a foot wide puddle of fuel under my truck.
Two hours after I found the puddle the tank was out. I found that under the shield the tank was badly rusted, that is the first spot of rust on my truck I ever seen. After looking over the tank the rust had eating a small hole in the tank the jack just helped it a long.

The best part is that office lady that worked on Saturday had smoked three times on
Saturday before I got there with all the doors close and no ventilation.

I guess that is a bad day gone OK.

Do you guys know a good place to get a replacement tank?

I did have a link to a place that sold Plastic replacment tanks for a good price and you dont have to worry about rust anymore but i have misplaced it, send TYPHOONNUT a pm and ask him thats who told me about the place.

I have one but dont know how to ship it....

Goto a scrap yard and get one from a blazer.

I had to deal with a rusted out gas tank on my old S10 last year. I ended up buying a 20 gallon polyethylene plastic tank from JC Whitney so that I wouldn't have to worry about messing with again as long as I owned my truck.

I was a little disappointed when I got it because the bung to hold the fuel sending unit in was SUPER ghetto:

The tank is made by a company called MTS and they don't mold in a bung for the sending unit. As you can see in the pic above, all you get is six strips of galvanized sheet metal and six sheet metal screws to pinch it in :roll:.

When dealing with disconnecting the tank and the lines going to the fuel sending unit my post here might help you out. Good luck.

Your step by step with the fuel pump replacement is great I printed it out and used it to put in my 255 fuel pump. I did know about the plastic tank. I think I will try and stay with something more original.

Just thought Ild throw in that you can always do what I did if you ahve to do this on your back by yourself.
