Another never ending journey . . .

Bought my truck last month, been keeping busy making it better. So i thought i would make a thread to track the progress. I normally take lots of pic's but its funny cause i havent really taken any pic, i've just been to busy working to stop and take a pic.

She's a 1992 Typhoon #1353 with 92k miles. Its been setting for nearly 6 years, so it needed a little work. So far here is a list of everything I've done...
-Fuel Pump
-Fuel Filter
-Oil Change & Filter
-K&N Air Filter
-NGK UR5 plugs
-MSD 8.5 plug wires
-MSD 6A ignition
-MSD Blaster GM coil
-O2 Sensor
-Shocks, Front & Rear
-reset the Timing
-Tinted the windows 20% all the way around
-flipped the oil pressure gauge needle back over so it reads right.

Couple things in the mail right now are...
-RPM 2800 TC (the stock one is shuddering really bad).
-18x9.5 ZR1 replica wheels, probably going to wrap them in 285/35/18's.
-'00 TransAm Rear Disk Brakes for the conversion

Near Future plans are...
- flush the trany and install a trany cooler while i have it out for the TC replacement.
- thinking about covering the interior with a two-tone tweed. Not 100% sure i wanna do this yet, i have never seen tween in person but it looks good in the magazines... Anyone got some good pic's of tweed interior. I've searched here and found some pic's of an S-10 with tan tweed. It looked pretty good but i dont think the dash was covered. I plan to cover the dash as well. To hide the cracks and get rid of some plastic squeaking thats driving me insane. :rant:

Only pic's i've really taken so far are right when i got it for some "Before" pics, and some pics after i tinted the windows. I also spent a couple days reviving the original paint. I used a high speed buffer with foam pad and 3M finishing glaze. It really brought the white back to life, after than i put a coat of Turtle Wax over it to protect it. Really made a huge difference. Now the white looks brand new, when it was all dry, stained, and powdered. I tried working the cladding but its just to far gone to save. I've been thinking about just having the cladding repainted white so that the truck will just be one solid color.

Now for a couple pic's. This first one is when i brought it home.

This one is after restoring the paint and tinting the windows.

In the next two i hadnt tinted the rear glass yet.

In this last one, you can see where i spent over an hour working on the front fender cladding. Its just way to much work so i'm just going to hold off till i can get it all repainted.

I am back in the "convincing the old lady" stages given I have a new baby. But hope to soon be able to fix one up my self...GOOD LUCK...

Nope. I converted her to a twin turbo. Basically its got all VR4 parts except its still 10:1 compression and FWD. So its a completely different beast. Check out me car domain site linked in my signature, there you can kind of get an idea of what i've done...

Other plans for the Typhoon included...
- 2-3 lowering
- C5 front bracks
- 255lph fuel pump
- repainting the cladding
- larger turbo will all supporting mods. (just wanna run 12's).... for now But everyone knows, if you just want 12's, once you reach it next thing you know you want 11's and so on and so on...
- performance Chip
- maybe a steel cowl 2" hood
- then start upgrading anything i break in the process of reaching lower 12's. :roll:

Well, i was getting tired of the factory stereo and it wouldn't play any CD's so i upgraded. I installed a Pioneer DEH-7700MP, 50W x 4, that works with CD/MP3/WMA/WAV/iTunes and is ready for both XM and Sirius and has a hookup for iPod adaptor on the back. I got it for cheap, went to Best Buy and it was on sale cause it was the floor model. It was 25% off and the sales person took another $10 for the hell of it. I also installed a Rockford Fosegate 800.2 Power Amplifier and two Rockford Fosegate 12" Hx2's. Sound allot better now, but now i can tell the stock speakers will need replacing soon. I pulled the back seat so i could run the wires neatly and completely hidden. I was thinking about making a fiberglass inclosure for the subs and amp but i like to race allot and doing it this way will keep it easy to remove on race days. I haven't put the back seat back in yet, when i working i noticed the carpet smells funny. So I'm just going to leave the back seat out till i get some new carpet.

I just finished installing some new lights i got. Best part is, they were "Buy It Now" for $1.00 on eBay. They're crystal clear lense's assemblies with Super Bright White H4 Bulbs, and have a super white parking bulb as well. Well, i think it was actually meant to be a day time running light type of thing but i wired it into the parking lamps.

The Torque Converter should be here tomorrow, so hopefully i will be able to do the swap this weekend. I will try to get some good pic's of that stuff. But normally on big projects like that, once i get into it i usually dont take time to stop and snap pic's.

I have those same lights, but mine have the blue tint and a blue auxiliary ... I'm going to wire it into the power locks so I get a "super-blue" headlight flash with the key fob :tup:

All the bulbs this came with have a blue tint to them, but they didnt actually light up blue. I thought they would but oh well. Its still much better than stock...

FYI... Torque Coverter showed up about an hour ago, so when i get off work tonight i will probably start tearing into it. :lol: Joy!

The 18x9.5 ZR1 replica's showed up today. Cant wait to get some rubber and get them on the truck... But i guess i would probably have to finish the trany first.. I worked on it for a little while but lost interest. You know, got bored and tired of crawling out from under it everytime i need to get another tool thats not withen reach.... man i wish i had a lift! a air compressor and air tool set would be extremely useful too...

Well, got some rear wheel spacers off eBay. Not to bad for the price. Solid aluminum, pressed in studs and nuts. I got 1.25" so hopefully it will look good... Now i just need to get some rubber... Man 275/35/18 sure are expensive.

Also got some C5 front Calipers. But its going to be a little while before i can order the kit from CBR, need to fix my trany issue first... http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=34544

Heres the calipers, going to paint them red so the look like the Z06. From what i could tell the plain C5 caliper and the Z06 caliper are exactly the same except for the color, is that right?

Stage 2 Trany from SR7 Performance Products.... They used my origional 700r4, and added the B&M Deep Pan.

Good choice in tranny shop. Glad too hear you didn't choose Len's transmission shop All my friends have had bad dealings with that guy(ex. jerryrigged transbakes that ruin your valve body, sh!tty costumer service. Just ask Scott about Len he'll tell you about him. SR7 did my transmission too a while back.Guys names Scott real knowledgeble dude, heard he was moving out of town up north. How much did your rebuild cost you mine was was just a little under $1700.Heres a pic of mine, sorry crappy pic.

Yep, I paid about the same. But I added the B&M trany pan so the total with tax and I had to pay for shipping a converter to Precision Industries and back, so the grand total was a little over $1800.

Sad thing is after all this work, I know for a fact now that my stock TC is bad, so i have to pull the trany back out. I put it all back together and I still have my idle problems. SO I guess I will have to find a temporary cheapo converter to get me to my new home in about a month. Probably moving to the Dallas/Ft.Worth area if I get the job.

Aaron I've got a good stock converter rebuilt with about 1200 miles on if you wanna use it to get you to your new home just let me know if you wanna use it.
