Another shock thread...

So in order from firm to soft, is this correct?

front suspension:
Koni adjustable
monroe sensa trac (load adjustable) $110 ....are these coil overs???
Bilstein Sport $66
Bilstein HD $58
KYB monomax $51
KYB gas adjust - $47
monroe relfex $55
Monroe sensatrac (non adjustable) $54
monroe gas-matic LT $22

I'm leaning towards the KYB monomax or one of the bilsteins (i heard koni's are expensive). My truck is not lowered, nor do i want it to be. I want fairly stiff ride so handling will be above average for an SUV.

For the rear, i want to retain the stock air system (once i get the compressor working again), so i was thinking:

Monroe Max Air shocks - set of 2 for $75 from advance or $48 from pep boys.
what else?

Phew....

No, i'm really cautious with the truck since I just got it. 1-2 minute warm up before shifting out of park, and a 1 minute cool down before turning key off, even if i was just regular driving. No WOT until I get some laptop info. People keep asking me for rides but i tell them i can't get on it yet

OK, back O.T. Bilstein's HD, Bilstein Sport, or KYB Monomax for front?

I have tried several different shocks and by far the KYB Monomax are my favorite. I got them for my wife's Ty and loved them so much I immediately bought a pair of rears for my Typhoon.

So you have them at all 4 corners of your wife's and the rear of yours? what are you running on the front of yours?

Where did you buy them?

I bought them all at Summit. It was $230 or something shipped for the four and 125 for the rears shipped. I have four on wife's and rear's on mine because I have coil overs up front.

The ride just says it all. Every other shock I have used with my lowered truck seems to feel good for the first day and then it seems they fail almost immediately. With a lowered truck the Monomax shocks perform very well.

Define fail - I'd like to know if mine have had it with less than 1000 miles.

My rears are bilsteins and feel like they don't exist. Stock springs and the ride skips all over the place. I can adjust the front but the rear of the truck is very skittish.

I had no idea US roads were this bad.

I just put a pair of these on the back that my buddy Jason gave me to try and they made a huge difference. Truck doesnt squat as hard on the launch, and doesnt bottom hardly at all even on a really rough road compaired to before. They are firm but ride nice. My truck is dropped with blocks in the back as well.

I would get them for the front but i think I am going to do coilovers...

Cool, KYB Monomax for the front is it. Tirerack appears to be the cheapest at $51 x 2 + ~$13 S/H.

IMO.....

Bilsteins are a great shock, but they are valved for a more firm, stiffer ride. Combine that with the weight we have up front, and lowering, they can get rather harsh. I like them, but I prefer a firm ride.

KYB's are a great shock as well, not as hard riding as the Bilsteins. And are great for lowered trucks to give them a more forgiving suspension.

QA1's on the front and rear are super super nice. They are pricey, but top notch. Probably my favorite set up.

Ranchos are very similar to the KYB's

Tokico shocks are very nice up front.

I have also used Belltech shocks in the rear of a Sy. Ride very nice, but they are a tad short, and on a lowered truck, get fully extended over bumps.....

Qa1's for the win. rebuildable and adjustable? Prob more of a race shock and priced so.
