Another stock block Ty in the 11s

11.77 @ 118

Just made this pass tonight, it's an awesome feeling driving something that fast! We should have videos in a day or two.

Started on 91 octane at 15 psi, and my friend was driving (it's his truck).

First pass was a 13.0 Second was a 12.5 at 108, much better. Then we put 107 octane gas in and went to race timing. 3rd pass was 12.2, so we decided to turn up the boost - wanted to break into the 11s for sure so we went to about 19 psi and ran an 11.91 (woohoo first 11 second pass). We turned it up a little more and he ran a 11.81 at 118.4 Then I took a turn driving and managed the 11.77 at 118 run.

I was going to do another pass but something happened, I had a good launch but then it cut out real bad - felt like hitting the rev limiter several times or something. So I just coasted down the track.

I'm not sure what happened but I think it may have something to do with the gas because they didn't have any unleaded 107, so we used leaded. I'm thinking maybe it's not compatible with the spark plugs or something (ngk tr55) I told him to drive the rest of it out and put back regular 91 and see how it does.

Well if it didn't have that problem, who knows  I know we're already pushing it with the stock bottom end, but I tell you it felt really smooth and knock was like 1.5 so I think it could have gone 11.5, but I really don't want to have to change the engine!!

Looks like me
I did race my first Sy with 27 psi once. I raised the boost on the fly and then a burned splug wire gave me some serious missfiring. I was lucky

We all know youve got the Racer inside you ....so go buy an othe block and prep it with 4bolt mains to be ready to swap in a couple days

Re: Another stock block Ty in the 11s

That is so awsome, one day i will have a teal jet ski behind my Ty. Congrats on those fast times. What is the record for a stock bottom end with a vortec swap? Put a Razor Alky kit and hit 10.90, that should set a record. But will you risk all chances of stock bottom end destruction. I say go for it, hold on this is not your bottom were talking about.

Crank up the boost and walk home when it blows up! Then build that 4bolt bottom you've been wanting. ;) All you need is an excuse to build it anyway. :D

Tighten your plug gap up some more. Didnt see an ignition box in your list, and your symptoms sound like blown out spark. Easiest way to tell is turn boost back down to 15psi and see if it pops. If the problem goes away its your ignition.

It still did it some at 15psi. I set the plugs at .030 so they're pretty tight. I did get a new cheapy coil from Autozone (because the terminal on the original one was pretty corroded), but it never had any problem before this - but yeah I was thinking ignition, maybe we'll try a better coil and check the plugs.

we ran .027-.028 on recent customers truck with a msd 6a and vortecs to prevent the spark from blowing out @20psi.
