Any tips on removing the starter??

I spent about a half a hour yesterday freezing my nads off while I installed my new Rancho steering stabilizer. I got it on and was all ready to see how she drives. This is where the problem begins. The Ty won't start! I did some troubleshooting and found that 3 wires that run off the starter were burned/grounded out against the exhaust manifold
I'm going to now have the replace the wires. Due to their location I don't see how I'll be able to do it without dropping the starter. I've replaced starters in vettes before but not on the Ty yet. Is there anything I need to be aware of or any tricks to make it easier? It looks like it's going to be a real tight squeeze to remove it once the bolts are out.
I think I might go ahead and replace the starter while I've got it out, I don't know if it's original, or how many miles are on it.

Some drop the inspection cover on the trans. After you remove the bolts you need to push it forward and up and drop the back of down first and it will come out. Remove the wires while supporting it. Getting it back in can be a little harder but try to remember how you got it out. Reattach the wires first.

Thank for the tips guys, the job is done and was actually much easier than I would have expected. I did remove the TC cover, that made it much easier to drop the old one out. I went ahead a upgraded the starter while I was at it. I did the 98' Tahoe starter, very pleased with the sound and speed it cranks at!!
I took the truck for a drive after I got it all put back together to test my new steering stabilizer. I'm really glad I did that too. For anyone that hasn't done it yet, THIS IS A MUST HAVE ITEM!!! Parts listed below. Why this was left off at from the factory I don't know, they mounted one of the brackets to the frame for it

Rancho RS5000 Steering Stabilizer. Part # RS5401
Steering stabilizer mounting kit Part # RS5526

I got they both for about $70 w/tax. at Advance Auto

Thank again for your help guys! 8)
