Re: Anyone ever felt this?
Well when i first bought my Sonoma GT, i could nt get the smile off my face, then i decided to park it to make some needed repairs and do some upgrades, and well that has led to a full on frame off that i didnt really have planned in the begining, and that was in Jan of 03, its now been almost 3 years, and for awhile i hated even looking at the parts all over my garage, but have now began to work on it again and it will be done someday, and it will be fast as hell, and ill never sell it.
As for the Ty, well always wanted one, and last dec found a deal on a 92 with alot of miles but suppose to run well and it was a fresh theft recovery, so after i get it home, replace the driver side glass, steering column, tailgate and rear glass, reassembly most of the interior, and rewire the fuel pump i take it for a drive and find out the front end has so much play in it i can almost turn the wheel 1 revolution before it catches, also realize the engine mounts are broken, and the converter is bad. So i yank the engine and install solid mounts, new TCI 2800 stall converter, ZQ8 steering box, new pitman and idler arm, new trans mount, clean up some of the wiring and run new battery cables, get it going again and man im loving life, but the engine has a knock, so i take i teasy on it and hope it will last till i can gather the parts for a rebuild, and well thats where im at now, it didnt last long and last week the rod knock get way worse and even thought i didnt puke any parts, i shut it down and towed it home. But thanks to a fellow board member i got an awesome deal on a slightly used long block with 11K miles, and TRW forged pistons. So i should be back up and running in a few weeks.
Dont get me wrong, i still love the Ty everytime im driving down the road and a mustang or something pulls up along side and wants to go and i just drop the hammer and show them tailights.
I have been thinking about selling it once its running again, but as long as it stays fairly reliable i think i will be ok. I am starting to gather parts for the 4L80E swap also, so that i never have to worry about puking the 700.
I think the best way to sum up the ownership of a SyTy is that its a love-hate relationship.
