My uncle just got 1 ( trans and transfer case) in at his salvage yard. I did a carfax and it was bought new on 10-15-2008 and totalled on 10-21-2008. It had 387 miles on it and was the only thing salvaged from the wreck.. has anyone tried 1 of these in a syty before jw? Is it worth keeping around?

I think I've read those are not the greatest once you throw more power than the factory...at least when they're still in a TBSS. I'd look it up on one of the TBSS forums for the answer.

It's of the same basic design as the 4l60/65e. I think it has some more electronics pieces, namely input shaft speed sensor. I don't think it would really be an upgrade over a built 60e.

If I remember right, from what I read, those were barely good enough under stock motors (like our 700's). Any real power and they start to fail.

When we leased our TBSS, I noticed the torque and power changed at like 3000 rpm. It seemed to apply more after that, like the tune was limiting power in the low end so it wouldn't hurt the trans.

If you want to upgrade, go with a 60E, or if you really don't want to worry about it, go with an 80E.

There are some internal hard part upgrades but nothing more than what you'd get with a built 4l60. If you're going to upgrade go 4l80 and never worry about it again.

It's basically a warmed over 65e. I would just get a built 65e with a tci controller.

They are better than the 700R4/4L60, but not by much. If your going to do a tranny swap, just go for the 4L80 and be done with it.

It's an upgrade from the 700r4, but it would take a lot to swap it out. Although I know a few TBSS people who have seemingly easily swapped to a 4L80, so it might be similar to swapping in a 4L80 in a syty. Again, that being said, you might as well do a 4L80. Your family salvage should run across one of those at some point. They are pretty common.

That being said, where are you located? I might want some parts off that SS...

I'm in mt clemens Mi. There is nothing salvageable from this truck. The block was broke in the back the bell housing was broke the rear end was bent... There were fatalitys in this accident...

It should have both front and rear 5 gear planitaries in it
If you're going to run the Sy/Ty transfer case, you're going to do a little engineering to get it to sit on the correct angle so the driveshafts clear and it doesn't hit the floor
